Default NRL vs Indigenous All Stars Game 13/2

Just about to start. Really looking forward to this game actually.

Hope the Indigenous side wins. It will probably be a high scoring affair with plenty of errors with both teams pretty rusty, but still its the first NRL of the year.

I watched this last night. What the hell was it all about? I still don't understand. Not to mention the redhead playing for the indis, who was whiter than a sheet.

Don't let that worry you too much.
I went to the same school as Steve Ella ( played for Parramatta in the early 80's) and his brother's and sister. Three of them were dark skinned and two of the brothers had fair skin and red hair.

I'm not worried. I just fail to see how some pasty white dude can play football for an indigenous team when the whole point of it was to set a good example for indi kids. I'm sure they could have picked someone else who would have fit the bill much better.

And I though Benji Marshall was going to deck someone at the start with the "native intimidation dance".

The whole thing was a farce as far as I am concerned.

I almost choked on my popcorn when Ray "Rabbs" Warren refered to one of the indigenious players as "belonging to the stolen generation". That little gem just re-enforces why league players are meatheads.

Crossed my mind as well, but with Preston Campbell being a major influence in making this game a reality, I also believe it's a great way to showcase indigenous rugby league talent.

i think an ALL indigenous game will be a better showcase, at least then it will be all about their culture

What a joke!!

Did anybody else notice that the indigenous "tribal dance" was a pathetic rip off of the Maori Haka not to mention extremely intimidating.

All this did was encourage racism and Aboriginal Supremism. Did anybody else notice the placards in the crowd with such things as "You will be sorry". This is getting out of hand the constant cowing and special rights and benefits for indigenous people.

What has it resulted in? 98% of Australia becoming second class citizens and indigenous people rioting, bashing and burning police cars in "Australias best town" - Yamba

I myself am part aboriginal australian, I just wanna let you know mate, that no one in my family has received "special rights" and "benefits", as for the "intimidation dance" how is it a pathetic rip off the Maori Haka? Its an Aboriginal traditional dance not the Haka mate, do we start moaning and groaning when you sing your national anthem (that says nothing about the indigenous), I know I dont.

Has anyone thought about how good these type of games are for the young indigenous population.

This thread, and especially your post displays the stereotypical view on Aboriginal people, and even though not blatantly racist I have found a lot of these comments in this thread disrespectful, slightly racist and completely one eyed.

I LOL so hard when you wrote "aboriginal supremism". Thats something I haven't heard in my entire life.

Well I'm part Maori what is your point?

I LOL so hard when I saw the bows and arrows the tribal dancers were carrying as well as the Pacific/Maori/Aztec style clothing. When exactly in their history did Aboriginal people develop bows and arrows?

If they are so proud of their culture then why did they feel the need to steal and invent an Aboriginal culture that never existed?

So know Aboriginals are "stealing" culture....

You obviously don't know about Torre's Straight Islanders or TI's, they are the aboriginal people who live on islands just off shore, there are plenty of these islands here in WA, and yes they used bows and arrows and their culture was quite more extravagent and tropical compared to the mainland aborigines... Maybe you should do some research beforehand

I think the concept was good and the spirit the game was also good they should think about an AFL version, it showcases the skills that these players bring to our football codes

Yep .. If ever there was a sport made for Aborigines it would be AFL...
Yes there was some silly signage. But lets not get too worried about that..
They will possibly be persecuted by their piers anyway...

The AFL Indigenous All Stars already play an AFL team in Darwin each year or every second year. Has been happening for a long time

Being an ex pat Kiwi and pakaha ..
We love our maori tradition and hold it close as a country.. Look at the N.Z anthem ??

If we are all one and Aussies ... Be proud of the young Indigenous having a go..
