Default Casuarina Sands BBQ cruise - Saturday February 13

Getting our events rolling for 2010 is a nice easy cruise out to the newly-refurbished Casuarina Sands. This gives us a chance to have a New Year catch-up over a sausage sanga and a cold drink.

Here's some details of whats been done to Casuarina Sands:

With new shady barbecue and picnic facilities, new public toilets, new plantings, new parking spots and a new boardwalk leading down to the water allowing disabled access, Casuarina Sands is looking, well, decidedly new.At a cost of $2million, the upgrade is about providing a swimming spot for Canberrans while the Cotter Avenue remained closed for development of Cotter Dam.

Our plan is to meet at the rear of Old Parliament House at 11.15am for an 11.30am departure. This should have us out at Casuarina Sands by midday, just in time to get the BBQ fired up. Should Casuarina Sands be full, there are a couple of other BBQ areas nearby that we can try.

After lunch, we'll head back to town on the Paddys River Road via Tharwa and Tuggeranong.

Please bring along your BBQ lunch and something to drink, and it might be an idea to pack a fold-up chair just to be on the safe side. Feel free to pack your swimmers if its a hot day too!

Be sure to post some pics up guys, i grew up in Scullin, and spent a lot of time at Casuarina Sands. But have not been there in over 15 - 20 years.

It's coming along now! Can someone advise what we need to bring along, for those that weren't at the meeting, and for those that were but have a dodgy memory.

With luck I'll also have an XR5 there too.

The club will be providing sausages and bread. If anyone wants other meat such as steak, salads and drinks, they will need to bring it themselves

Default This ain't bad weather

The forecast for Saturday is not looking too flash, any alternative plans, or are we ok at the Sands?

As long as there is covered bbq to cook the snag we will be there. I remember a bbq last year at the Cotter -10 and rain, this will be a doddle.

Let the fool hardy enjoy!!! :

Cheers Craig

I am thinking with the revamp there will be cover and everything I've heard about the weather tomorrow is that the rain will be later in the day, much like today.

We'll see how it goes, it won't be very cold at least. Should be a good one either way!

So much for rain later in the day. Look for us in a white car at this stage.

Anyone not keen to participate today? If numbers fall away better to know early than mustering time at OPH.

Well, the weather certainly didn't improve, but a great time was had by all. The snags were certainly tasty and the company was good.

We sure know that the power of a club outing can bring on the rain, so we may be called upon by the Govt to visit areas that could use a downpour!
