Default Storm hits Melbourne

Antone get any damage from the flooding and hailstorm? Just heard from a couple of people with dinted cars, holes in their roofs and pergola's.

He has a hailstone in his freezer the size of a baseball :

Some areas copped it. Check out the pics-

A friend of my wife had her car window smashed by hailstones in Rowville, must be quite heavy in parts.

My brother and his girlfriend live in Rowville. Her car (Ford Festiva) is pretty stuffed (brother's VY is fine...only a couple of tiny dents), while a couple of windows on the house have been annihilated.

They called the agent to get the windows repaired ASAP, and they got the common, 'I'll call the owner'.

Here are some pictures to show the damage...they also had a house window broken, and my brother's car is actually far, far worse than he thought. He wants to call it a write-off, but the old man reckons he should keep it and let it depreciate more....though he's had it for four years, paid 15.1 on purchase, and will get over 10k on a write-off...meh. Not sure if the insurance company will actually agree that it is a write-off...still driveable, even if it does look like a dog's breakfast now.

Anyway, here is a squizz

Brother's GF's car (Festiva)

I just uploaded a vid on FB, it was mental, I have never seen hail like it. You hear of it in QLD and NSW but not VIC.

It hit while we were in Lygon St having lunch, a nice black M3 sedan copped it right in front of us; id be having a heart attack if it was mine.

I have a pic, but having issues uploading the vid, wont be long. Sounds like the CBD didn't get the worst of it.

It was setting alarms etc off but no dints that I saw, although we went inside pretty quickly.

It's a bit rare in Victoria but it does happen pretty much every year at one place or another. The thing with it is that it's only usually over a very small area for a very short time so the chances of it landing on a place that anyone takes notice (like Melbourne) are small but it's more common than you think

Agreed, but not the size as some of the hail stones we were seeing, it was an amazing site, when you watch the videos its sounds nothing like that, its way louder when they are hitting your roof and cars, I wish i ran out there and grabbed some of the hail stones as they fell, they were tennis ball size, by the time i went out there when it cleared they had melted to about golf ball size.

Yeah I can vouch for that.... this is the second time in 5 years that a car of mine has been severly damaged by hail to the point of being written off (still waiting on conformation of this one... but I'm 99.5% confident it will be), though one was at Chirnside Park the other at Rowville.

My parents also lost a car from hail damage 20 years ago in Croydon. Gotta get a carport on the new place!

Both my cars were outside in Olinda - no damage despite large hailstones...a mate in Sherbrooke had his cars ruined...drove past Upper FTG train station, at least 4 cars there with broken windshields and hail damage on roof/bonnet.

Every single car in our area that was outside is &*(^%#.

Stacks of houses with broken windows , even smashed plastic downpipes.
We have some minor pergola damage.

Neighbours have fist sized holes in their pergola roof and their aluminium wirly birds on their roofs are no longer wirling..they have been dinted and have jammed from spinning.

Neighbours had a larger than fist sized piece of ICE smash through theit rear windscreen , bounced of the back seat and landed on the dash !!!!

WTF !!!!!!! is going on with our weather. My brother lives in Lysterfield and driving through there is like driving through a war zone. Trees have been wipper snippered by the massive hail and the sun shades on the traffic lights have all been smashed to pieces.

Many people are away on holiday and don't even know that their windows have been smashed and their houses are filling with water !!!!!!!

This is the craziest thing I've ever seen.

I saw it hit Flemington on the "box" while I was at the gym so I made sure my car was tucked away in the garage for when it finally hit down my way.

In the end we never got the hail or high winds anyway. All that would have happened is my car would have got a much needed (heavy) shower.

Probably lucky by the sounds of things because the direction the rain was coming the hail would have probably taken out at least one of the 2 sliding glass doors at my place. My living room would have been flooded.

We were stuck in the middle of it in rowville.
There was a party in the court here and their is alot of damage.

The two best are a 2000 is subaru no longer has a rear window, half a dozen holes in it. And a BA has a cracked windscreen in about half a dozzen places.

Big bad news though was my ute was outside. I reckon it is now a write off.
Damage to it is:
Roof
Front pasenger quarter
Pasenger door
Pasenger cabin
Pasenger side tub
Windscreen (chipped)
Drivers mirror.

Cheers

It is always terrible to see your pride and joy damaged. Hopefully your insurance will get it better than new again

You wouldn't want to get hit by one. One of the guys from Burwood Strapp Ford apparently got hit by one and it left a huge bruise on his bald head, said it was like getting hit numerous times with a paintball!

Good news is that most ( if not all ) comprehensive car policies will cover the damage. If u have only 3rd party cover..........you're stuffed.

Methinks there will be hundreds of cars getting written off. Many in our street that were left outside look irrepairable.

Hope most people have agreed value cover and not market value coverage.

I can only imagine what the car yards look like in our area.........HAIL SALE coming next week for sure !

Ferntree Gully got hit pretty hard by the sounds of things. Car parked across from the office at work has a cracked front and rear screen and looks as if a hammer attacked the bodywork.

We didnt get any hail in Croydon.
