Default Ford S-Max

Spotted a Ford S-Max in Geelong today - Left hand drive evaluation vehicle.

Does anyone know if these are destined for the Australian market or purely here for engineering purposes?

I personally think they look a little ungainly and would not sell well here - would love to hear your thoughts.

Interesting Smithers.

I am honestly at a loss to speculate on why such a vehicle would be here. Unless that particular car was a platform mule with the S-Max body as a disguise.

Most manufacturers do testing in Australia for new models.
Different climate, different roads etc etc etc.
Doubt youll see it for sale here - probably a good thing anyway.

Looks good...

So if it were to be a platform mule, what new platform would it be testing?

Edit: davway makes sense...

No idea, it was a pure guess on my part. Although the S-Max shares the same platform as the Kuga and Focus.

I think Davway has picked it though.

I passed a new Cadillac CTS in Ringwood last week, heading out Warrandyte way... there is a GMH engineering employee out that way, because I've spotted several different evaluation cars in part disguise out this way over the years !

I also spotted (in Kooweerup) two LHD Pontiac/VE Commodores, not far from Lang Lang... why would they still be running around ??

I reckon the S-Max is awesome. It's the right size and is fuel efficient and apparently handes pretty well. Not everyone wants or needs an SUV. Ford could do worse than have these in their Aussie lineup.

They could have been testing it to bring it to market, because Holden are rumoured to be bringing the Opel Zafira here with their rehashed Opel experiment.

It has been here for at least 3-4 years. From memory it's black, left-hand-drive and has a chinese badge on the back (must be made somewhere in China, Taiwan or somewhere there).

S-Max are made on the Mondeo platform, C-Max are on the Focus platform.

The S-Max is actually built off the Mondeo, so therefore would probably be here for rough road testing for the next-gen Mondeo / Fusion.

As a family hauler, it certainly is a swarve choice! I think it might actually sell here in Aus, but perhaps not as much as a C-Max....

Zectec - the one I saw in Geelong was white - still in left hand drive but had an S-max badge on the back along with the Ford badge.

I did get a couple of quick pics on my i-phone but didn't turn out great.
