Default VCT Exhaust

Well I'm booked in on Wednesday for some back end work on my exhaust. Something about CAT back and new resonator and stuff like that. 2.5 inch pipe. Excuse my ignorance, but I know squat about these things. I'm after a better note, plus I think my rear muffler has a hole in it. Pipes out the right, noice out the left.

Anyway, I was wondering whether they are many benefits for the VCT doing these couple of things. Does it help the VCT to breath a little better. City Custom are doing the work and they do top stuff for the 8's and I hope their work is as good on the 6. Anyway, I hope she will sound better and go better.

It will make some difference to performance and a better note but dont expect miracles. The VCT had a twin exhast system setup as stock that was very capable. Its main problem was the exhaust header.....which is just like all the I6 headers...basically crap.

Still, will improve a little in performance and a lot in sound. Just make sure you get the resonator at the rear or it will drone like crap.

Cool. He's pretty good in what he does.

Eventually I'll do the header, but for now, a sound is what I'm after

I already have Premium Sound.

Besides, stereo's systems arn't my thing. Even if it had one of those $99 tape decks, it would more than enough for me.

When I had my Sandman Panel Van, we used to go to the Nats and disconnect the pipes from the bottom of the headers. Nothing sounds better than a V8 with no mufflers.

Bucky - how much is this little piece of work worth? I hope not more than $450. Oh, and make sure you keep your big tips (not for me, for you)!

Casper, I think you better clarify the V8 thing. I think you mean most AU series 1 V8s, or most Stock V8s - but then you are talking a modded six running a chip so the comparison is in your favour anyway. But even then, it's only just.

Just to remind you, that out of the list of cars in the AU times thread, there are 8 V8s before we even get to the first six (loxxr6's), 2 of which are 5 litre V8s wih *some* mods. So while you have a car that is quick for a six, there are still a heap of V8s in front of you (and me).

Thats why I said most V8's. Basically most of the E Series V8s with similar mods and pretty much ALL of the Holden 5.0l V8's with similar mods.

VS Clubsports and SS's, road bait.
But if you want to go nuts....JMM EB I6 NA...13.4 second 1/4. Thats got to hurt.

Nah that doesn't hurt! I don't really want to get into an argument with you in Bucky's thread - hell, why not. He does it.

Anyway, do the same mods to any 5.0L injected V8 (or even *most* carby ones) as that JMM car has had done to it, and the V8 would eat the six alive. It's not like it's a stock (unmodified) car, so comparing it to stock cars is an easy way to "win".

Having said that, I'm just a little jealous that yours puts out more than mine (at last dyno results, anyhow), and it's quicker to boot! THAT's what hurts! :.

$450! For a 2.5" system i wouldn't pay more than $300 unless it's stainless steel. i got my 3" straight through for $400 fitted.

In the ACT, you pay more for things than in other cities. Your $300 equates to $400 in Canberra. We don't have 5000 exhaust shops around canberra, like Melbourne & Sydney.

Meh, dyno numbers mean nothing. They are close enough to make no real difference.
Time on the track, well, sorry to say but I was fiddling with the car this weekend and I think its got a 14.9 in it without a fuss now. Maybe, just maybe, a 14.8 :

Oh, and I am talking similar mods... at least till the 5.6 and Boss/Gen3 cars are concerned. They are in a different league, no doubt.

Auto 5.0l with exhaust and intake and chip....most wont be that much quicker.

I reckon mine's good for 14's now too (1/8 mile, lol!). Seriously, mine has gotten seriously quicker since the 3" system went on (Another satisfied Custom City Exhaust customer) - I just wish we had a drag strip in Canberra. Might have to organise a trip to WSID in the next few months or so.

We do - Northbourne Ave - you get lights, terminal speed printouts, and photo finish to determine the winner!

Seriously though, what ever happened to the recent election promises for a dragstrip? I thought there was some approval for it to go ahead?

"Election promises" and "go ahead" very rarely end up in the same sentence without a "not" in there somewhere. But, yeh. Would be good wouldn't it.

I'm really looking into the WSID thing though - I'm keen to find out how quick my car can go 400m under drag strip conditions. It's really important as you need to know for some of the intersections around canberra (King's avenue roundabout, for example)

Do it JC, take the trip to WSID for your own peace of mind. Some things just have to be known, ET is one of them.

OK Buckie... I got the same work done to mine, Pretty much for the same reason (barring the sound being the driving factor)..

I noticed a change up higher so around 100kms put the foot down and shes away.. Round town not to much... But yeah it sounds pretty good too...

I rekon better then the stock exhaust.. I didn't understand the dual setup on the VCT, didn't look like it flowed that well.. But Im not engineer or machanic and when I ran FPV they said they didn't know why it would be set up like that...

I rekon better then the stock exhaust.. I didn't understand the dual setup on the VCT, didn't look like it flowed that well.. But Im not engineer or machanic and when I ran FPV they said they didn't know why it would be set up like that...
What setup is that? Duel Fuel?

It was a cost saving measure (but $100??, a bit of a joke, really). Only the XR6 VCT and the XR8 got IRS, so why design 2 different performance exhaust systems for one rear axle? They used the V8 exhaust on the VCT, and just deleted/blocked one side of it. The reason the Fairmonts with VCT & IRS get 168kw instead of 172 is that they use a similar exhaust to the live rear axle models.
