Default South Australia introduces a 'Supercar Licence'

South Australia introduces a 'Supercar Licence'. All drivers of UHPV (Ultra High Performance Vehicles) in South Australia will need a Class U license from 1/12/2024.

Its no difference to vehicle restrictions P platers have dealt with over the past 20 or so years,

It just now applies to everyone else, except the target is way higher at 276KW/tonne.

Now lets introduce licence categories for large 4x4s and towing huge caravans.

Do I have to spell my name correctly when applying for this licence class?

Makes me laugh though - one incident that becomes high profile and parliament has to make it look like they're doing something, so they introduce new legislation effecting everyone, classic knee-jerk reaction to make it look like you're doing something - even though its likely going to be ineffective.

Thats how you get things done in this country, is media attention and public outrage before action, and the action isn't necessarily going to be effective, this is just a box ticking exercise.

They've just introduced legislation for the 1% and ignored the 99% (caravans/4x4s/towing). Thats probably intentional because you can punch down on the 1% without effecting your votes.

A specific licence, well that may sorta work when it comes to people who rent lambos or whatever and showboat because they wont be able to rent them. That being said, surely it wouldnt be a difficult thing to get. More often then not when the news has a story of a crashed supercar its a rental. Yes some people who own them do crash them, but typically if its theirs they arent as harsh on the gear if that makes sense.
Now, in a perfect world if everybody stuck to the speed limit, a lambo or such is safer then say a toyota corolla. Say your doing 60 in a 60 zone and a child bolts onto the road chasing a ball, which car will stop quicker?
Other reason i dont think the extra licence will be effective is ive known a lot of rich guys with fancy cars who give zero ****s if they lose their licence. They can afford the fines and to them 6 months catching ubers is nothing.

This reminds me of a government knee jerk reaction in the 70s that wasn't, and still isn't popular at all.

I’m sure it will be very very very hard to get and will make a huge difference to the way people drive high performance cars while showing off

Are we cool with our G6E Turbos? I mean do we need to get this flawed class requirement.

I’m sure the Shahin family will be lining up to take the test to drive their exotic car fleet, they even built their own track to practice on!
But they’ll probably pay their own KC to get this thrown out.

Given EVs are getting faster times with less Power to Weight ratios, this new licence makes little sense. Power to Weight doesn't work in the EV world.
