I am trying to get my 60ft down on my Ba turbo ute.. best to date was a 1.62 (radial) and have gone backwards since upping the power level (1.78)
Ive got my hands on some 28 x 10.5 Hoosier slicks and wanted to know if it will be ok to run on a 8" rim. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I think you can, but it won't be the best fit. A 10inch rim would be much better. I was running that combo on my car for quite a while

You will have to jack the ute up a lot to get a 28x10.5 under it,I barely get a 28x9 under mine!

I'm running a 28x10.5 M/T on a 8inch rim, fits fine.

Ah ok.. well will find out tomorrow night when i get the wheels fitted to the tyres, and dummy it up...otherwise yeh, maybe go and shell out for 28x9 and sell the 28x10.5x15s

Ok well finally got the rims on thanks to my Mate Tony,and Heath for giving me his custom made calipers :-)
28 x 10.5 hoosiers fitted nicely with more headroom than i thought. Thanks everyone for there input... Just about ready for the Heathcote AFF drags.

The tyres are good for 7 sec passes, provided the car is sorted.
They are quite tall compared to std.

Yeh Standard rear end Paul, the only thing i can think of is that the leafsprings are probably wrapping up on takeoff.
Theres always slapper bars, 4 link etc, but it is a daily workute. I just wanted to try bigger rubber first.

Hey have you got a video you can post or any photos of launch or slow mos.
Just going by the photo of it sitting in the shed the larger tyre is sitting with a bit of camber with the top leaning in and bottom slightly out is this how it sits in real life and how does it look when the car is squatting in stage? No sure if you can adjust the camber so they sit nice flat on the track when the car is squatting so you get maxium contact for launch. I found using a shorter tyre made this possible with no adjustment required to my stock camber. Mostly reccomend to match the tyre width to the wheel width, but you can get away with slightly wider tyres then the rim as the other members have pointed out. Just keep in mind if you go to wide and sticky expect to find your new weakest spot in the drive train. Work out the best PSI for your setup and sometimes extra fuel can help keep the rear planted which may give you a better ET and 60 foot then a lighter load. Also look at running a stock wheel and small tyre on the front even a set of worn stockies pump pumped up hard will help. |

Yeh i dont have any video footage that i can look at, hopefully someone can take a close up shot at heathcote so it can be looked at and go from there.
As for the tyre leaning, i think thats just how the body is and also the offset of the tyre, and being a leaf spring rear end theres not much squat, if it was a sedan it would be alot easier to launch, and run 1.5 tenths quicker from being 70kg lighter than a ute. http://www.fordforums.com.au/attachm...1&d=1338795523

Paulie Parsac might be able to give you some tips relating to leaf springs and drag racing. Him and his brothers are getting the carpi down the strip in 8 odd seconds consistantly. using standard rear leaf springs.

we ran similar Hoosier's are these the DOT Radial (2 lines down centre) or full slick? we had the DOT Radial pretty much a slick, we ran on a 10'' wheel you can use an 8''. i think the best we ever 60'd with them was like a mid 1.3 they were difficult to find the right pressure with when we thought we had it, then it would change it's mind when these wear out try M/T's most people including ourselves tend to have more success, we found half a tenth in the 60' straight away. found an old video with those slicks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z6sYt-V-0E

The hoosiers i bought are a full slick, will give that a go this weekend and see how the 60ft is, and i guess go from there.
I wish my ute holds tight on the the 60ft like yours does..lol

we run the caltracs that is about it. ur pushing about 900lbs more than us also, though in saying that i have seen 4000lb cars 60' 1.2-1.3's. alot of people criticise leaf spring rear ends but they aren't that bad, if you can get them to work they are good. i know we tried a couple different sets of leaf springs to see which worked best.

I just want to get in the 1.5's and consistantly, managed 1.62's previously so il have to see if the wider and taller rubber works in my favour.
Nothing more frustration than having a tyre hook up one time then not then the next run. Its like russian roulette.

Yeh maybe il see how it goes this week and try and make the boost come in softer down low in the tune itself, as everythings just off the std pcm.

Yeh cheers, i would say a 29 x 10.5 would even fit at the stock height.
