Default Favorite Clothing going downhill

Just wanted to share with you a moment of minute sadness in my life.

My favorite house shirt has fallen on hard times and is destined by decree (wifes pet name) to be thrown in the box of rags that we have accumlated downstairs. It was a Summernats 14 from 2001.

After years of buying the mag Street Machine, I decided in a moment of weakness (son was 4 and wife was pregnant) to actually make the trek from North Queensland down to Canberra with them to see what it was all about. I actually bought one for myself and one for my son who passed his down to our youngest (it lasted 6 years till the second boy grew out of it). I have a lot of great memories of these shirts (saw boobies in cars) and have now taken on a predecessor that was received last sunday with some crap fudge.

[IMG][/IMG]

A moment for the shirt please..........

Now a focus for the thread: What clothes (car related) do you hold dear to your heart or do you have something old that you treasure? (no pictures of jox please as the "ewww police" are out in force and may shut this thread down)

i have a couple of old T's that i love to wear. they both have splits in the seam on the shoulder and my wife keeps threatening to tear them up for rags. i have to hide them from her in the drawers... every time i wear them, she groans out loud!! this year will be about the 6th or 7th summer i'll have worn them...

I have been reliably informed i had an absolute ball on the below weekend , 20 years ago next month......

This will never end up in the rag bin, actually thinking of framing it as one of my finer moments....

I used to have an old MXPX Left Coast Punk shirt which I loved, passed down from my older brother. Unfortunately my mother decided it was a bit too worn and chucked it without my noticing :( Devastated! I have tried very hard to find a replacement but no such luck! I wore it to a lot of gigs and finally I actually saw MXPX live and I was wearing it. Not long after it went missing :(

Similar to this but blue and yellow

I've had a Vic Edelbrock shirt which I have worn on basically every car show, drag meet, bunnings run I have made since my dad gave it to me 6 years ago. I wash it carefully, and it still looks pretty much new. A quick iron every time and I the only complaint I get is from my girlfriend, meh... She has her favourite things, So do I.

Pimp, that Summernats 14 shirt has nothing on my '89 Summernats one.
It's so faded & thin you can barely read the writing, but she's still hanging in the cupboard....

I sympathize with you though.

I`m still doing the on the non-focus comments (supposed to be car related) but hey, might as well include everything.

Cheers

Haha I had the same shirt. Loved it for years... and then I kept growing, and growing. The Large is no where near big enough for me any more.

Like pottery said, the best thing to do is buy doubles! Otherwise, wash your favourite clothes inside out, that way the inside fades and not the outside.
I have a fair few funky patterned knitted jumpers that people used to give me crap for, now if I wear one I get indie hipster muppets with their stupid Morrissey haircuts asking me where I got it from

When i was living in darwin my dad took me to the first V8 super car round ever at hidden valley i was only 8 and took home the shirt from their with a few famous signatures from shell racing, stone brothers and a signature from mark skaife and craig lowndes unfortunately i lost it at the winternats a year later when on holiday down there.... bought it a few sizes too big and everything and missed it ever since.

Still got my aufalcon.com polo & hoodie I ordered back in 07/08 when the AU clan decided that some merchandise would be cool. Was damn good quality clothing too, they're still good to this day.

Also my AFF Drag Nationals tshirt & hoodie from earlier this year get worn quite often.

Don't have much car clothing other than these (all AFF related!) - unless you could count a couple of Stig tshirts.

Had this lurking in the back of the cupboard since '87 or '88 - was a freebee from Tricky whan I bought some DJR polos. Gifted it to a mad DJR/Shell era fan a few months ago.

Cleaned up the diet and a bit of exercise goes a long way!

Have kept the weight off too! Had a few fluctuations but have settled again!

If you have a closer look at the shirt in the opening post, they look around the same size?

That new one with the GT is an XXL whereas when I bought the Summernats shirt it was an L. I was rather fit back then (85kgs) after an 18 month stint doing FIFO in west QLD. It stretched over the 11 years to fit me albeit a snug fit (now 105kgs)

Cheers

Congrats! Good to hear that you've kept it off. I'm like a yo-yo. UUp to 120kegs, down to 105kegs, up to 115kegs, down to 110kegs,

My biggest issue is beer.

And it sucks because it means i can't wear my favourite old AC/DC shirt anymore. :(
