Toyota was the best-selling brand in October, its total of 20,212 beating the combined sales of second placed Holden (11,415) and Ford (8,206).

Year to date Toyota now leads Holden by 71,360 sales.

It will be very difficult for Toyota to explain a profit that doesn't match it's market domination come end of fin. year.

The Fiesta is not a bad looking car so I agree price might be the downside in the market its competing in. The Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla are thought of better cars by the buying public.
The backend of the Focus does not look as attractive as the Mazda or Corolla so that could put people of thats not brand loyal.

I find the fact that the Barina outsells the Fiesta so frustrating.

The Barina is such a piece of rubbish it should not even be on our roads. Its safety rating is appalling and if the government really wanted to get serious with lowering the road toll, rather than put stupid restrictions on, make it that cars must meet a minimum safety standard to be allowed to be sold.

I hope the Mondeo can steal some sales here and there too.

I wish people would look past that 3K. Just think how small amount of money that is when you think about the extra safety of the fiesta. How would you (not you, if you know what I mean) feel if your wife and kids were badly hurt in a barina. Like I said 3k is a small amount of money.

I think Ford should be aggressive with advertising the Fiesta and compare DIRECTLY the Fiesta with the Barina. The problem is the Barina has been a household name in the flying coffin market for a long time and not to generalise, but I find many of the drivers are young ladies on their P-Plates. They don't know anything about the car they buy and often their parents don't either.

Ford should really get the fact out there that the Fiesta is a great car and that you cannot put a value on extra safety, as well as aesthetic taste (which the Barina completely lacks; and that's not purely because it's a Holden).

How the hell do Holden sell 1000 Captivas per month, and the far better looking, better equipped, more refined and better built Mitsubishi Outlander isn't even on the list. Boggles the mind. I guess this is where Australias motoring world is going, and we have Holden to thank for inferior products made cheaply and poorly to sell to a naive public.

It boggles my mind that people still get around with there eye's closed to the fact that all makes of cars are made in some pretty cheap labour wise countries which doesnt mean they are poor quality then rave there ill informed opinions around. The captiva is a far superior quality product to anything ive owned previously and all the other owners i've met are rapt with there purchase.

Yeah, right. It's a rebadged Daewoo. If you've bought one I feel for you, I do. You must of owned Daewoo's before to be impressed with its quality.

Man i cant stand Aussie car buyers. Getz, Rav 4, CRV, Yaris Prado all still in top 15 i dont get.

At least they are some good Ranger figues for Ford, i had no idea Rangers were selling that well.

Yes definately not looking good for Ford.

Focus is out of the top 10
Fiesta never really got into the top 10 to start with
Mondeo is here, but like Focus will be limited by supply anyway

Falcon is slipping slightly, but is to be expected 4-5 months out from a new model
Territory is slipping, as it is getting to the end of its life-cyle, with no new model on the horizon for the next year at least. Will see the Kluger/larger RAV4/Prado outsell it for sure.

Worrying that Ranger is taking the lead for the entire Ford line-up (ford have always had a strong range of commercial vehicles, and it is showing how porrly passenger cars are doing)

Pretty scary sales figures there, even the VE isnt doing THAT well.

Ford need to apply the $250 'Focus' deal to the Fiesta as well.

A great idea (I think) is to run an ad campaign telling all potential 'Barina buyers' to head down to their local Ford dealership (who will have a Barina on the lot) so buyers can compare the two cars next to each other, and if they deicde to buy a Fiesta based off this experience they get $250 credit etc

The Barina really is a nasty little piece of work, so el-cheapo.

WTF since when was Prado selling more than Territory?
Ford is going terribly. Perhaps this continuous sale slide may make Ford reconsider their export plans - but with the high Aus dollar I don't think so.

Not good either is the number of import Captiva's going out the door. I'd Love to see Ford advertise their cars and take a stab at the Korean side of Holdens range, seeing as Holden are so quick to take a stab at other brands with their adverts.

Prado would easily outsell most SUV's if Toyota could supply diesel powerplants to the outstanding orders that Toyota dealers have.

When the new Camry was released there were ads everywhere.
C'mon Ford, do you expect people to know what cars you have to sell? You think the cars will sell themselves? Yeah that seems to be working......NOT!!

Captiva is still a new car so there is the initial sales surge. I will wait one or two years time to see how it is still going.

The biggest suprise is that the old Territory, with no diesel option and crap advertising is still selling fairly strong. Though admittedly when Ford invested 500 million dollars in the Territory they expected to sell 3000 a month and I don't think they have ever sold that amount.

Interesting facts on drive that Holden is selling more V8's than they ever have in their history. I think all 4 locals are in trouble. Holden is battling with the high Aussie dollar and a 1 billion dollar development cost to repay, Toyota is looking at shutting it's Australian operations??, Ford has a sales slump and Mitsubishi...............

Wheres the commercials of "we have your new Falcon on ice" like they had for the XD. Ford is going to really have to pull something out of it's ***. The large car market must be only 8000-9000 cars a month and I think Holden and Ford both need 5000+

Original projections were 2000 a month, and it reached that number quite a few times in the first 2 years and stayed over 1500 for quite a while. Its been dropping off the last 6 months though.

Its bad that both the Holden and Ford utes aren't even in the top 30.

Holden would be worried as the Commodore has dropped to less the 4500 sales a month (the exports won't be bringing any money in with the strong doller). The Falcon is below 2500 units (Ford were budgeting for about 3000 units a month), but I guess as the new model will be here in less then 6 months you would expect this....so it's not to bad.
The Terri is just holding on, but Ford need to get the Diesel varient out to boost the sales. You would just hope that the R&D cost will bring the money in as if there isn't alot of sales in that then that exercise was a waste.

Yeah territories holding up pretty well. I guess Prado was just another one hit wonder. Why has focus died? I thought the supply issues were sorted when production switched from Germany to South Africa.

I wouldn't talk too loud. Prado sales might be down but it's only because dealers can't get enough to meet demand. TD Prado has a waiting list till at least March next year atm. Hilux TD is about the same.

I think a combination of factors has hurt Ford in their sales race last month. As I'm not in Australia, I can't really say if they have been pushing advertising or not. What I do know is that some of the current line-up is very stale, and equipment wise (safety in particular) is lacking in some areas where rivals have it as standard.

The Mondeo should inject some fresh blood into the Ford range, and there's new Fiesta/Verve, Focus and Falcon product coming, but probably not quick enough.

If I'm correct, some elements of the current Falcon, like the doors and wagon rear will be over ten years old by the time the orion goes on sale.
