Judging by the mess of the car, its no trolley dent.
Hope the occupants are ok.

This car cost a lot more than 120K. The Verde Ithaca paint job was reported to have cost more than $25,000 alone. Considering the cars went for $150,000 new plus the fact that the interior was a one off special request. Apparently with all the other specially requested bits and pieces, the cars cost was closer to $300,000.

I was about to say, don't they come with full red leather interior?
That one just looks like a regular cloth one.

Black leather imported from france from what I've heard with Verde Ithaca stitching to match the exterior. Guy who owns/owned the car has serious coin. Few people on various forums suggest that the owner wanted HSV to build another one for him after the accident but because the car went out of production, they wouldn't so he asked them to build a tribute car with the same engine from the car in the accident. Apparently they agreed. Rumours also circulating that he bought a fully loaded Maloo and Senator on his visit.

Thanks FTE. Thanks for the link as well. I knew someone on here would have a bit more info.

Just because some can afford to spend 120k or more on an Aussie muscle car does not mean that they don't have a Lambo , Ferrari , or whatever in the garage as well .

Nothing wrong with being passionate about Aussie muscle cars !!!!! If you can afford it why not ?

Is that the one that was painted in Lambo green?? Lots of buffing required to fix that mess.

Still looks like any other smashed Commodore on the side of the road. I would have picked a better colour for $25K as well.

That roof was crushed in pretty bad though

absolutely terrible!........tragic, one split second simple mistake and it's over

driving on the wrong side is, unfortunately, very common with overseas tourists regardless of how many stickers the hire companies put up in the windscreens

Agreed, sutch a tragic crash. Its not only overseas tourists that are responsible for driving on the wrong side of the road. Sometimes it can be just a case of poorly signposted roads & confused drivers.

My parents were in a head on with a driver that got confused & did a U turn on a dual lane divided road & drove against the flow of traffic. THey were ok but car ws written off. A couple of years later on the same road the same thing happend & one driver was killed.

That stretch of highway is so bad every other month there is a fatality there. I don;t understand why as the road isn't that bad.

Old news and the owners daughter posted on Facebook over a year ago about the bogan stigma comments casting blame incorrectly.

The other car which caused the accident is in one of the accident photos.

The bloke who used to own it was one of my Dads customers. Tourist was on the wrong side of the road and it was on a blind corner around the Moranbah area. He and his wife were quite seriously injured and one of the occupants in the other vehicle were killed sadly. He also bought the wreck back, while also purchasing a new E3 GTS that has now got all the usual bolt on's along with a very angry cam. Sounds insane! Anyway, very tragic for the family of all involved.

not easy to know what to do when an oncoming vehicle is on your side of the road regardless of how much time is available

I've experienced this 3 times, twice recently, I avoided them by various means, driver asleep or just crossed over by mistake

3rd time, a long time ago, a young feller used me as his ticket off the planet.....haven't driven semi's since

it is a horrifying experience - something that leaves a mark for some time on you. it takes a while to get your confidence back

sorry to hear about your experiences, the first one must have been indescribable
