Default Ford's newest employee

As of Today I am the newest employee of Hillis Ford, here in Wagga. I'll be undertaking a Spare Parts Interpreter Traineeship, as well as few other odd jobs around the dealership, and i can't wait. In about 2 years time I'll be a fully qualified Interpreter, recognised by Ford and pretty much every other Spare Parts Business, which is great.

As a result, I'll also be able to be a bit more helpful with some of the parts queries and questions on here, give me some time to learn the systems and i will hopefully be able to help you guys out with whatever you need.

Is anyone else here undertaking a similar position?

Spare Parts Interpreter basically means that i am the guy who looks up what part you need, gets it for you then charges you the price (complete with huge Ford markup) for it.

It also means i get to spend my days in a wonderland with pretty much every Ford Part (including the 'wont give it to you unless you own a certain model' parts!).

Tell me this.... Say I go down to my local Ford Spare's and ask for a Titanium Johnson Rod for a GQ220 Fairlane... Spare Parts guy tells me I have to own one. I don't. But I tell him I do..... How do I prove it? Or more to the point, how do you prove I don't?

BTW I turned up in my other ride, a Trabant.

Ok i havent done the training for that yet, but from what i gather, you would be required to produce a VIN number and possibly sale/rego details of the vehicle in question, which would then be verified using the Ford network.

If the VIN is accurate and proves to be the car in question, and everything else is satisfied, you would then be able to purchase the part.

But seeing as none of the parts you asked for exist, it wouldnt be a problem :Reverend: .

Just walk out on the yard, find a G220 with the bonnet open and get the VIN.

Dwayne.

yeah ill remember you lol. There's nice a black GT-P in the yard atm, ex Ford execs car (how it got up to Wagga i have no idea). Certainly goes alright though.

Luvinmy, hopefully once i've done the training and worked my way through the parts (there's 2 floors of stuff, in excess of 200,000 items in stock atm and it grows weekly), i'll be able to help out. At this stage i still need to learn how to use Catman (the system which helps you work out which part you need), but after that it should be smooth sailing. I am certainly looking forward to being able to diagnose problems and figure out which part to use, and help you guys do the same.

I've also found out today that i'm being considered for a trainee sales job at Hartwigs Trucks, who are the biggest in the area, so if i get that i will have a difficult decision to make. Nonetheless, im looking forward to Thursday!

Wow you have opportunities just being thrown at you at the moment, did you help an old lady cross the street or something?

200,000 items huh? You should have them memorized by next week. :P

The experiences that I've had with Ford, the sales guys grabs a mechanic, he tells you what part you need, then you wander off and see the parts guy, he punches it into the system and tells you if they have it or not.

Good luck with your decision, which ever one you choose. And remember if it feels like work, your in the wrong job. ;)

Congratulations, arent new jobs always exciting! You shouldnt have too much trouble getting parts for yours now... excluding the huge Ford markup.

Good luck with it

Yeah, i was hoping someone on here would be familiar with the systems and the catalogues, from what they told me Microcat was really easy, but Catman (what they replaced it with) is a bit harder. However, i have the advantage in that i can walk straight in and make a fresh start on whatever system is there.

SiX, by all means put it in. I still cant believe that i got this job - all i did was write a letter to the DP saying i was fed up with my previous work and that if the chance arose i would love to work at the dealership. 1 week later (today) i was asked to come in for an interview - walked in hopeful, left with a brand new job which before i thought i would most likely never get. I have had an incredibly hard time in getting a job - took me about 8 months to get the one at Coles, and before that id come so close every job i went for (always 1 of the last 2), and just missed out.

So, and this goes for anyone who may be in a similar position - write in. You have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. I still cant believe its happened to me.

And for everyone who is planning to ask me for discount parts - give me some time to learn how it all works first, then i'll see what i can do for you. No promises though!

Yeah reece, definately do that. Apparently once i finish the basic training ill be doing majority of front counter sales anyway, so we will most likely meet at some point.

Absolutely goldmine behind the door though, about $2 mill of parts. :dr_Evil:
