Default Mustang Mach E for Austraila

Ford has delivered an electric shock to its loyal V8 fans by unveiling a four-door Mustang EV ahead of this week’s Melbourne Grand Prix.

Aussie F1 star Dan Ricciardo pulled the covers off the electric Mach-E Mustang SUV at the Albert Park Circuit this afternoon.

This link has a pay wall so might not open for most

No date for delivery, but will soon be taking orders.

I pretty annoyed at this point, especially after the news that the REAL Mustang has been delayed until next year.

And yet, we are led to believe that Ford wants to chase high profit margin vehicles, but has decided to focus on bringing in an expensive low profit electric hatchback that is designed to appease those who think mining lithium and cobalt with slave labor is better than burning fuel................at the expense of the existing, loyal customer base that will be standing in line for 2 years to get their car!

Not happy.

LoL I think you're overreacting a bit. Not sure what Mach E arriving has to do with the 2024 Mustang delivery, two seperate vehicles.
Based on this article the Mustang range will be late 2023, earlier than expected initially.

Old article, this post made by a fellow member who is in the know suggests otherwise -

https://www.fordforums.com.au/showpo...&postcount=517

"Mustang pricing and arrival dates have been delayed.
This afternoon Ford updated a bulletin regarding the release of the S650 and it’s not good news.
Pricing has been pushed back from Q1 to Q2 2023.
But even worse news is that no S650 Mustang will be sold here in 2023 and the first arrivals and sales are now scheduled for Q1 2024.

And for those hoping to see more options are going to be disappointed. All the options have remained the same so no Dark Horse handling packs or different coloured seats or other customisations will be available to Australian buyers."

So it has nothing to do with Mach E at all like I said. Whether what that post states is true or not, it is not that much longer than the originally planned delivery of Q4 2023; 3 months, not the end of the world!!

Not to mention they bring another product to market with no indication of pricing.

Why release info so far out when you know people will want to sign up, yet cant give them a price.

I just received an email from my dealer and you have to ORDER directly through Ford if you want one.

"Please note our dealership will be unable to place you in a queue for a vehicle, and you'll need to register via Ford's reservation system on Ford.com.au."

Then if you have to do that, why can't you just buy a car you want directly through Ford Australia online?

Are we doing this whole dealership network thing or not?

This. Direct to market has been a success to Tesla and Ford openly have said this approach works.

Saw a Mach E in Malaysia recently. Car looks much better in person. I like it.

Possibly the logic maybe to assess demand and then price accordingly to maximise profit from what will be a constrained amount of stock. They sorta get one go on the launch pricing - too low and they don’t profit like they should/over subscribed. Plus annoy the punters by putting prices up. Too high and they don’t profit enough overall and annoy punters if they then drop prices, although sometimes do cash back to early adopters to keep ‘em happy.

One of the factors here is that they can’t currently build enough of them for all the demand - not the only make/model with this challenge though

Fun times ahead

Just shy of $69,000 via a straight currency conversion. Add in shipping, tax and on roads and this is going to be one expensive car. But if it does somehow end up in our price range this will be our choice.

Same reason GM are making a Corvette EV SUV. Need to understand US Fleet emissions.

Think they are late to the game but good to see the announcement. Not fussed about the S650, I'll be keeping my Mach 1.

Pricing will be key here. If it's not around the Tesla Y, might as well not bother. If it's around the Y, and supply is good, it'll do well.

Hopefully they pay Tesla to use their network as well as I'd not want to go out of town in anything but a Tesla for now.

Just curious to know.

Can't understand why manufacturers persist with this look of an iPad mounted on a magnetic mount is attractive Even Tesla's look is a bit clueless. You would think with car designers imagination, endless amounts of beautiful or classic lines to work with, something more than the current crap could be offered.

This looks like some home baked half assed effort.

Someone thinks it looks good, and a higher-up someone approved it.
My opinion is that it is ugly and distracting, but it is the 'fashion' and common to a lot of current cars. Unfortunately.

Easy answer. If you plonk a big screen on a post sticking out from the dash it's much cheaper than redesigning the dash for every model....even if it does look like an afterthought.

Then perhaps they can ponder why their product which is pretty much a mirror to the cheaper competitor doesn't sell.

Guess some of the hassle is whatever someone creates that is new or exciting, China just rip it off. Then if you challenge China over it they get offended.

Erm, that's because the BMW i7 Protection model isn't yet available. Once it is is I am sure an order will be placed for one.
But by all means keep the tin foil hat on for your own protection.

The i7 will be released in October 2023, pre orders already in for many governments in EU countries and some Asian countries. Australia have no orders in at present and not expected until end of current lease period in 2025.

Hidden messaging? Ricciardo unveiling a Ford Mustang while representing Red Bull. Which cap was he wearing for this activity? A Red Bull one or a Ford one? The message- is Red Bull Racing here (F1 team notwithstanding) going to Ford one day and the car will be hybrid/EV? Or too much being read into this?
