My neighbour has a 2009 Fiesta 1.6 5 speed manual which he wants to sell. Done 115K kms and full Ford service history. It’s the very first of them built in Germany not Thailand.
He’d like to sell it with a RWC and the current gearbox problems fixed. Namely, jumping out of 2nd & 4th gears and a notchy change into 3rd. It had a 2nd gear problem fixed under warranty early in it’s life. He recently took it into the local Ford workshop for an opinion & they said faulty syncros. They didn't comment on the notchy change into 3rd, but I reckon it could be worn linkages. So, is there any Melbourne mechanics who have worked out the problem/s with these boxes and can repair it? Thanks |

Jumping out of gear is usually caused by worn/faulty syncros, but the Getrag/Ford IB5 gearbox, as fitted to your car, was notorious for jumping out of 2nd gear even when new.Check that the gearbox fluid level is correct, and also check the condition of the gearbox fluid as I have seen burnt Ford factory fill gearbox fluid in many Fiesta manual gearboxes(the Fiesta XR4 I used to own had burnt gearbox fluid at 30,000km).
