Anyone changed the factory Mondeo wheels to something after market in 18inch plus?
I have been fishing around on the net and there is not a great deal I could find. European-Part have a few Tomason styles on there, which look hot. Anyone found anything local in Oz? Alternatively if anyone in Perth decides to sell their 18inch XR5 factory rims please shoot me PM. Here is a link to the Tomason website http://www.tomason.de/home.php My favorite is the TN4

Search for the mondeo. Only downside is the price. Im thinking about changing the wheels also, but I can't decide either way. Also look in all the wheel shops, anything with a centre cap that covers the lug nuts can be ordered as a "blank" and drilled to suit our euro 5x108 pattern. So that opens a few options, though most wheels with a centre cap don't look that great IMO... |

Nice set you have picked out
I had a browse through the Bob Jane catalogue - only because it showed up in my letterbox and I was curious to see if they had advertised any tyre prices for 235/40 18's. Seems that they are selling their Xenon Z1's at a very cheap price (179 each) - mind you, I have no idea if they're any good. They were also advertising wheel and tyre packages "from 1299 for 18s"... Not sure I can spend more money so soon after coughing up for the car..

If I buy after market I will be getting 19's. Otherwise if I come across a cheap set of XR5 rims I'd settle for 18's. The 17's on the Zetec look small IMO, def need some 19's in there with some Eibach springs I am yet to see a Mondeo in Oz with a decent set of after market alloys. Was hoping to see some pictures.

I hear you Zippy - I would love to put some aftermarket rims on but can't afford the cash. Especially if they are easier to clean!

90% of the wheels on the market will not fit our cars.
We have an unusual PCD of 5x108. The only other cars that use this are focus, volvo, ferrari, and a few other Euro cars. No local manufactures. So hopefully you can track something down. Believe it or not, $1000 per wheel is not unreasonable. You have to pay for quality. Most wheels you go and buy down the local tyre place are very poor quality, or they package with no name tyres. If you are running low profile tyres, you need a good rim. Otherwise you are going to buckle rims, in a few thousand kms the wheels won't be able to be balanced properly. Also cheaper rims are often very heavy, killing your performance and fuel economy. Especially in the large chrome rims. If buying rims from your local tyre shop I would try to stick to brands that are more known, and package with reasonable tyres. You'll be far happier in the long run. By the way, having said all the above...
I have been considering the TN4 above for a few months. They look to be a good quality rim, german made, TUV approved. You wouldn't have a problem with those! |

There is one thing that I would consider down the track, and that is to buy a set of the stock 17's from the Zetec/TDCi. They'd fit the same, give an ever so slightly more comfortable ride, and most peeps would never know the difference! But I'd be looking to get a set of those on the cheap, for "commuting" purposes...
And I am sure they'd still be just as much a pain to clean as the 18's, so no loss there! But, like I said, I am not changing anything at the moment

Actually the TN4 looks somewhat similar to the B.Boss Eleanor from a front on view.
The TN4 curves more, as it seems the Eleanor is flat - http://bbosswheels.com/meet-the-ladies.htm I do like the curvy design

Zippy7, the TN4 is more like the bboss Maddison in its shape. I am not a fan of the flat looking Eleanor.
