Such a nice model BMW, still don't get the rust and the roof racks, maybe I should read more.

i hate it. it was a beautiful looking little beemer at the start and he purposely wrecked it. a rat rod was built that way because the owner couldn't afford, or didn't have the skill to finish it, so they left it rusty and unfinished while they drove it around. This guy purposely made it rusty by taking off good panels to put rusty ones on. that to me is doing it backwards.

anyone who can afford or has skills to make a hot rod are flying the face of what a rat rod stands for (eg boyd coddington making a rat rod is insulting).

He threw the bonnet on for effect but after that the car was in an accident. The A pillar was busted. The car was a write off.

I think what he did was brilliant. While it's not a Rat Rod what he did was to experiment with a "look" and did it at home and for very little cost.

the whole time i was reading it to start with was when is he going to fix the dent in the bonnet ,then the rust stage my thoughts were "it keeps the d!k heads out of fords" ,what a lot of work to achieve what leaving a car in a paddock for 10 years can achieve.what was the reason for the fire ?prolly joined power wires with a twist and let them hang loose to earth out to get a few sparks .not a fan...doc

The fire was un intentional. Mike lost $15k+ in parts in the fire. the car wasn't built for anyone in particular, but for Mike himself.

Haha, its more to it then that...

Its the "anti" of people who care to much about there pretty 100K paint jobs, its about having uniquie style that can't be copied. Its takes more balls to do this then to just keep it plain jane like everyone else. There is alot of thought and trial and error put in to this, its not a happy-go-lucky approach.

would be a pretty boring world to live in if everyone did the same thing over
and over and over.....

As said car was a right off so he had some fun with what he had - isn't that
point you were trying to get across in regards to building rat rods; making
do with what you have?

So because someone has deep pockets/epic talent they have to have a
perfect paint job? Because they have money/talent they have to build a
modern rod?

Its nice if you're into that type of thing I guess, I personally think he looked in the toilet and thought "I want my car to look like that"

I love rat rods, when they are rods
Not BMWs, beetles and golfs

Roof chop is nuts, such a constantly evolving car. It has a fair bit of worldwide fame, known as "Zombie", then "godfather"...the Gold Ronel rims set it off though. I think i rather it in the roof rack stage though...

I have seen that car and thread before but wow that is some simply stunning imagination when it comes to cars.

Love it or hate, it's not the point. The reaction it gets is worth it!
