OK, without this turning into an all in brawl, what are your thoughts on 'Parents with Prams' parking at shopping centres?
Some of my thoughts: I never park in Disabled or Emergency Services spaces, because they are a legal and just requirement. Centre Management provide PwP spaces as a convenience and as I don't see them as a legal entitlement I park in them. I don't have any children and I don't think people with kids are disabled or disadvantaged in any way. However, I believe some parents may disagree with me.

It is a little hard for people to get their kids and other assorted paraphernalia out of their cars. And wouldn't you prefer that they have wider parks to lessen the risk of their car door hitting the side of your pride and joy.

I don't think anyone should park in them, other than the people it is intended for. They are there for people with kids and prams.

Considering they are normally wider than standard spots, therefore room for the mother (Or father I guess) to enable strollers and such to be unfolded and also for the toddlers not to have to walk through lanes of traffic. I think there a good idea, even if I don't have kids. I tend to park in a slot all by myself away from others anyway! (However, people still park around me, Go figure)

My greatest fear when I go shopping with the kids is them getting knocked down in the car park. Drivers not looking, tight spaces, people backing out. I'm all for giving parents all the breaks they can.

Pretty self centered attitude to park there with no reason, mum's with kids need the larger parking space, i park as far away form all cars as i can, a small walk beats a scratch.

As I wont park next to a car with a baby seat I think PwP are a good idea. Let them bash each others body work as they carefully strap in junior. I don't necessarily think they need be as close to the shopping centre doors as they tend to be, after all prams etc have wheels.

You would have to be a heartless mug to park in them, and obviously have no kids, or understand how hard it is to get kids etc in and out of cars, and they are close to the doors for the safety of parents with kids not walking the car parks.
Try and load your shopping into a car with 2 kids winging...you can get the pram up between the cars in the larger spots. I bet you would be the first to cry if it was your kid run over in the shopping centre carpark because you took your eyes off them for 1 second (and those with kids will tell you thats all it takes) Leave them for the parents that need them. |

As far a dings and scratches go, Don't get me wrong.
I don't park in them with the Falcon. Heaven forbid!! But the wife's about town car is another story. In regards to wider spaces. I'm not convinced they are wider than the average car space in most cases.

Using these parks when you dont have kids just shows how self centred and arrogant people can be. They would rather parents manouver prams through busy car parks than they put themselves out by having to walk a little further. Lazy little sh1ts. :

Hey I'm not after enemies either. Let's put it into perspective. I'm not a murderer or rapist or anything, I park in space that two years ago I could park in without getting treated as some sort of heartless monster. BTW, what is post numbers got to do with anything. It doesn't make me any less of a forum member?!

sorry I know this is off topic... and I know I will be reminded as such.. but, Post Counts really mean diddly squat in the light of day. Mine has gone from just over 2000 this week to 0, got to around 60 posts in and then it flew up 20,000.. now back to what it is... Don't anyone hassle someone just because of Post Count .. If you read what Genghis said in his opening post = Quote:

I take it you have never had the misfortune? of having to place a kid into a child seat in the rear of a car, in driving rain, with some inconsiderate parked hard up against the side of the car after having been unable to locate a PwP space, as they were taken up by persons such as yourself. Perhaps one day you will be so lucky as endure this funfilled act in your pride and joy falcon, but then again you will prob NEVER allow a kidseat in the back of it anyway. With a bit of luck there will be noone about to help push either the pram or the shopping trolley for you. The whole disabled / disadvantaged argument, comes down to being understanding of the extra challenges being a parent provides. You are correct in saying that a lot of them are not really that much wider then a normal parking space. Time to take a Viagra (long & hard) look at yourself (same goes for SR_AU) and work out where your priorities in life 'SHOULD' actually lay. |

I never park in one of these parks for a few reasons.
1) Dont want dints and they are there for a reasons so parents can actually access the rear doors of their car. 2) I like to park as far away as possible. 3) I dont need some angry parent doing something bad to my car because they think im a *****. My neighbour however who is 40 years old and cant have kids parks in them, we actually had this conversation not long ago where she thought it was her right to do so, I totally disagree with her but then again im pretty easy going..

Slightly of the topic here but dont you hate it when you make the effort to park far waway from any other car then someone decides to park right near you.

Send this man to the shops every day for a month or 3 with 2 kids under 5. You obviously have no kids even if you hadn't said so in your post. And as this is supposedly your 1st post you must be a saddist.

Those parking spaces are wider for a reason. And then you get idiots who have no baby seats in the cars who think it is ok to park their car there. Those are the same people who complain when their car gets scratched. usually by a parent with a pram who is forced to park in standard parking because some idiot in a ute has parked in the PWP parking. Regarless of whether it is law or not, the parking is there for a reason.
Usually these parks are close to the entrance of a shopping centre. If you think its cool to let a female with a dozen kids in tow with Prams and the shopping walk to the furtherest park in the car park, because you don't like her getting it so easy, then theres a serious problem. Show a little respect. Theres only ever a few of these alotted car parking spaces. Leave them vacant for the people there were intended for. Its not that hard.
