hey all just thought I'd do a poll to see how many people have back problems compared to people without.
Me I'm 22 turning 23 in 5 days and my back has its on and off days. I have 3 narrowed disks and arthritis through my lower back. Whats wrong with yours, how old are you and how do you get relief from the pain?

yeah a few dramas from work im a landscaper
i have scolliocis spelling not right i know so that doesnt help, its when ur back curves cause one side of the dics has like worn away. i find sit ups help strenghten ur core muscles which helps, but i get massages, no happy endings lol. and a tip when ur sleeping on ur back put a pillow under ur knees see if that helps. im 28 yeah and like urs has good and bad days |

I have Scheuermann’s disease or syndrome. Disease is an ugly word.
3 of my vertebrae are in a bit of a wedge shape instead of being rectangular. This gives a bigger curvature of the spine looking side on than most peoples backs. It makes it looks like a bit of a hunch. I'm lucky where mine isn't that serious - I just look like I have a bit of bad posture. Other people require back operations to inserts titanium rods along the length of the spine to straighten it up. |

All I remember from my teenage years was being yelled at to "Stand up straight".... Little did I or my parents about this or have xrays to confirm it. I was 22 when I had it checked, by then it's too late. I'm 38 now and will suffer with it for life. Regular exercise and movement helps alleviate it most of the time.

My son has Scoliosis and he is 20. He has to exercise almost daily to keep it OK. If he sits around during the weekend by Sunday night he gets in a bit of pain. Swimming helped him alot when he was younger but now just has to keep active. Funny thing is 10 years or so ago, they told you not to exercise but rest with pain killers! I am 43 and am fine with no probs.

been working since i was 11 ,fencing ,tordoning ,fruit picking so wrecked it in my teens .to keep it bearable i stay fit ,and if its an off day just a few nurafin + or voltarin rapid to get the swelling down ,a good bed is important .and decided not to be a labourer any more ,and got an operators job in the mines .only drama now is doing enough so i dont get fat ,which wont help the old back at all.ad all the football wounds in and ya have some sleepless nights ,but i would do it all again ,gunna wear the old body out before i go ,not like anyone else will need it .

Does a bad neck and knees count?
Knees couldn't handle several year of basketball on bitumen it seems, I'll eventually end up with arthritis the doctor says. yay The neck was from a minor car accident, never been the same since, it comes and goes.

I have Scoliosis and I'm 17, it doesn't seem to be a bad case of it though.

I was told i had Scoliosis when i did my back in the first time because i pulled the muscle down the right side of my back and it was pulling my right shoulder down and put a really bad curve in my back which was pinching numerous nerves which made me bed ridden for 3 days before i went in to back specialist person. forgot to add my back now is perfectly straight

My husband is 36 and installs heating and cooling so he is crawling thru roofs and under houses all day. He has had compressed cartilage in his lower back and musclular problems. He has been on anti-inflammatories, been to Chiropractors, x-rays, etc. We got an inversion table to strengthen the muscles and it seems to have helped alot, you need to use it everyday for the best result. I definitely agree with a good mattress and pillow.

I do not have any diagnosed medical condition but have I do get a sore back from doing numerous 10 hour + shifts of continuous standing. I just have a few beers and it goes away. I think it's mostly due to wearing inadequate shoes and improper lifting though.

Yeah, it seems i have lower back pain.
Only flares up when i do physical activities like sprinting or kicking a ball (mega ouch). The doc seems satisfied that there is nothing structurally wrong, so hopefully it should go away in a year or five.

Yep, did mine in when I was 14 (4 years ago). Working as a storeman carrying rugs. I just bent down to pick another one up (had done about 20 by now) and bang, it gives me grief every day just about. Cant sit for too long or it hurts, cant bend over without it hurting, cant stand for too long etc. etc. Doesnt help that Im now starting to put on weight and become a fat ***.

Its a table which you lie on and you use gravity to go upside down, your ankles are hooked in and you use your body weight and arms to control the degree which you lie at.

Going back 20 years when I was 16, I was in a back brace (a corset with metal straps) for almost 2 years after slipping a disc - the option was to get surgery which wasn't going to happen.
Took a long time to get over it, but between chiropractors and a lot of discipline with correct posture including walking and sitting it came good in the end. Pain killers really don't help... Edit: ^^ that photo looks like a snake not a spine! |

seems like many people have back problems
I had a car accident when i was 18, 7 years ago now and from that i have VERY close to 3 fused disks in my lower back, they are not fully fused but very close. Im a personal trainer and found through certain exercises relief can be sort for many back problems - not all!

I'm 25, fractured discs in my back skateboarding, have a couple of other bulging discs, also suffer from sciatica. Causes me pain 24/7
Dont take anything for pain, have learnt to live with it. But need to start getting fit again to build up my core muscles to take the load off my back, as I have got poor posture as i subconsciously slouch to reduce the pain I feel. The bad posture causes me upper back pain, as well as neck and shoulder pain. But, life goes on :togo:

I'm 20 (21 in October) and I suffer on and off which I put down to being really tall (6'8") and a couple of mountain bike accidents I've had. Walking around all day at work and bending down alot make it worse. Funnily enough I get worse back pain driving my car long distance than riding my bike. I also have on and off days with my left knee which I tore the ligament in one of the accidents I had - it was 5 years ago this happened and it still gives me greif on and off.
