its illegal to just take it ,go around and see if you can find the owner if they live in the street and ask to buy it ,or ring up the council

The local council will tow the car away. If they can't find the owner it will go to auction so you can buy it then.

Car thieves use this trick. They steal a car, strip it and leave the body shell on the side of the road or in a park.

The council would take it away and sell it at auction. The thieves would buy it, put all the parts they originally striped off it back on and the car is theirs legit.

Very rare that a car would go to auction they're usually towed straight to metal recycling yard & sold for scrap.

They'll usually stick a notice to the car giving 2 weeks notice that the car will be towed but the towies don't like that as they often get stolen first once people know it's dumped.

One of my tosser neighbours has reported my XD as being dumped several times I'd love to find out which one of them it is.

It depends on it's condition of course.

Council will sell off complete vehicles to get some money back to cover the costs of getting them towed.
