Looking for someone’s wisdom. Manual with 140,000km
I strongly suspect that this is entirely coincidental, but after changing the oil and oil filter the car has started acting oddly. Dipstick did show the Oil was close to low, and draining it got ~3.5L out, I put 4L 5W-30 (WSS-M2C913-C spec) and it is at the High mark on the dip stick. This was 3 weeks ago. The IPC seems to be reporting lower fuel usage when idling. I have now seen 0.3 L/h and 0.4 L/h with the AC off. I don’t know if this says anything. While stopped with the engine idling, I have noticed a humming that is coming from the rear of the car, I have located this noise to the capless fuel filler vibrating from sucking in air I believe. It isn’t always but has only been obvious while idling stopped. Start Stop is acting up and not a needing a charge type of way. The battery is a year old, and the BMS confirms that. Battery charge and voltages all seem normal. The start stop has a couple of times since the oil change would stop the engine as per normal, but then start the engine after a moment and would no longer show the symbol. It would stay like this for the rest of the drive until I restarted the car. The second time it did this, I noticed the start stop flash amber briefly. Last night driving home, the start stop engaged and showed the green start stop symbol, but oddly when the RPM dropped down a bit from idle it just ran at ~500-600 rpm. I noticed this and quickly pressed in the clutch and start stop started the engine. Releasing the clutch again this time the car did turn off the engine. Using FORScan, the PCM is reporting a P2196 DTC, and the freeze frame seems to be from around the time of the start stop issue. https://i.imgur.com/4RpO7bW.png Reading into P2196, I did a KOEO test and KOER test and there was no new DTC. I did notice that the P2196 did update after the test and showed an updated freeze frame. https://i.imgur.com/kXqL1WK.png I did try to do the pinpoint test for fuel control, but this seems somewhat inconclusive. The “check the evap system for a stuck open evap purge valve” test, I can only command the EVAPCP PID to 0%, I cannot control the EVAPCV and command it to ON. Setting the EVAPCP PID to 0% did not change the FTP or engine RPM, but I don’t know if that is because I wasn’t able to set the EVAPCV. The “check for the presence of a vacuum leak” test basically shows that there was less than 15 correction value. https://i.imgur.com/bdk36Wc.png and https://i.imgur.com/GYW1cxD.png This all seems related. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don’t mind giving it ago to fix. |

Some updates since.
While leaving the car to idle for awhile, the car showed gave a DTC for P0172. There wasn't any MIL. Long Fuel Trim was at -25% and Short was -28%. I checked out the EVAP Purge Valve, disconnecting it didn't change anything (other than a DTC for it being disconnected). Plugging it back in, it seems to have started working again. The short trim changed to 0%. But as soon as I accelerated to ~2500 RPM it went back to -25%. After a 30 minute drive stopped at a set of lights the start stop attempted to turn off the engine, but again is sat at 550 RPM. When I noticed this, I pushed the clutch in and it started. I pulled over and let the car stop the engine again. It dropped to 550 RPM, but this time I left it. After 5-10 seconds the engine turned off and the "Manual Restart Required" message appeared. When I started the car, the MIL appeared, and it was for P2196. Checking the reading while the car was running at 550 RPM the short trim was at +50%. Confident that something is wrong with the Evap Purge Valve, I order the part from Ford. After replacing the purge value, starting the car it showed a -20% Long Fuel Trim and +20% Short Fuel Trim. Leaving the car idling and once it was to temperature, the values both started updating and both were corrected back to zero. The car seems to be driving better. Also the Fuel usage while idling also seems correct. We shall see, but no DTCs after each drive for now. The noise from the fuel cap has also stopped. |
