Default lock down regos

Hi all i have a caravan sitting in my yard that i cant use at the moment due to lock downs even though i live in regional nsw do you think caravan owners that are paying rego and not being able to use them should receive a discount on the next rego as compensation.

I've got two cars and I can only drive one of them at a time, unfortunately I don't get discounts on my rego for the car that sits in the driveway when I'm driving the other one

Last year, the NSW government offered trades licence holders a one year free renewal or multiple years at standard rates. Doubt I was the only one to take the free year.

A pro-rated reduction or credit on the road tax component of vehicle registration reflecting the impact of restrictions by garaging postcode, would be equitable.

CB. That's so nice of them considering NSW rego / TPI is 4 times the price of anywhere else. Let alone buying custom plates.

From memory in NSW, once out of rego it will need to be fully inspected again before it can re regoed and being a sitting caravan there are lots of things they can "find" wrong with it during that re-inspection.
Agree easier to just cop the rego fees.

Now PM Scotty, I have a passport that hasn't been used in the last 2 years.

I think its the case in nsw that get a pink slip and that buys you another 3 months before needing a blue slip for rego. Still an inspection, but you can keep doing that every 3 months for $42 untill you pay for rego. 3 months out of rego with no pink slip then its in need of a blue slip. They actually inspect things properly for that. If you do get pulled up unreg however heading to the nearest place of inspection, thats allowable, however the trailer is not insured in the unfortunate event of an accident. Or atleast that was the rules in nsw a few years back when i got a trailer blue slipped.

Pensioner concession in NSW is free rego, but you still have to pay for the Green slip..... (Compulsory Third Party Insurance)

Re-registering a caravan is easy, If you already own it, its just a inspection

They just check the caravan lights, suspension, wheel bearings, override braking, tow hitch, chains and tyres, already on record is its tare weight, all the measurements, gas, electric, braking certificates, your details and the VIN, its a very simple inspection, which is generally standard maintenance issues before you go on your next road trip anyway, they dont look inside your van at all, they are only interested in the safety and compliance side of the registration.

I have registered many new caravans and re- registered many used vans here in WA for a company based out of VIC, if the van is being presented for its first registration you have to supply gas certificate, electrical certificate, weigh bridge certificate, Braking type and capacity declaration, its a bit more involved as they need to set up a new registration, still not hard its only a caravan.

Yep, buillding 2 motorhomes from scratch and registering them in NSW, so well aware of whats involved.

Motor home is a totally different inspection to a caravan, its classified as a medium to heavy motor vehicle, and if its a first inspection or new build, they will be checking everything, I dont envy you , but a caravan that has been previously registeted, its more like a minor inspection, unless its a old clunker.

I’m not sure. Anyone else looking at the NSW daily Covid fine revenue? Most pings are $5K, they’re handing them out like lollies.

Doesn't mean they'll get paid though, most of the VIC ones were dropped, even if they don't elect to go to court and it'll drag on for years

We have a different system in NSW. It's all connected to the State Revenue Dept.

Any fine unpaid goes to them & they simply refuse to re-register any car in your name or renew you driver's license when due, until any outstanding fines are paid.

Sure you can dispute it in court, where you will lose the case & have court charges added to your fine. Very few people go to court, you lose time off work (more money) & if you lay down with dogs you get fleas.

In the old days you just spent a few days in jail to wipe out the fine, but a few guys got bashed & permanently disabled so they stopped that gig.

That is why Victoria has the Sheriff's Dept, the Government Debt Collectors - people who don't pay fines may very well have the Sheriff at the door collecting cars, TV's, sound systems, household goods, workshop tools etc to the value of the fine

Many don't realise this until the Sheriff is at their front door - stay posted

If it's any consolation:

Toll road owners aren't getting the revenue they budgeted for,
Fuel companies aren't getting their revenue,
Casinos and gambling venues aren't taking people's money at the rate they normally do,
Car park rorters (I mean owners) aren't able to charge 100 customers $60+ a day for parking in the city,
Taxi drivers aren't slugging people 3 times the Uber rate plus 5% cc surcharge plus secret other charges when they figure you're on a business trip,
Airport cafe's aren't charging patrons $15 for an average sandwich at the international terminal,
Macquarie bank isn't pocketing $15 each time someone takes the train to or from the airport,
Hotels aren't charging their guests $40 for breakfast or $10 for a coffee,
....and the list goes on.....
