Default Lowering...

I want to lower my car but am unsure of to what measurements.. I just dont want it to scrape, nor have the front wheels hit the arch when turning. Thanks

I dropped mine with King Lows (32mm from memory). I wanted to go further but insurance wouldn't approve.

I find that the only thing that scrapes is the front under car bib thing (yeah that's what we call it in the industry) on some driveways. Normal driving it never bottoms out.

If you went lower than this I reckon you may have probs.

Yeah, I had to get King Lows in the front of the ute because of insurance. They were Superlow. On a side note, I still have the Superlows, anyone want them?

Just go King Low, it does the job nicely.

loxxr6, is that little bib important at all? Mine is ready to fall off.

Likewise mine. One corner doesn't click into place where it should and sags down a bit.

I thought it was just a dust/dirt guard or something ? I'd be really suprised if it did anything performance orientated.

front under car bib thing/crappy stone shield thingy = AIR DEFLECTOR

.. It is (should be) held on by ten screws. They come loose after a bit and fall out (the more you bash it and/or remove/refit it the quicker this occurs). Replace any missing screws and put some loctite nut-lock on all of 'em and put wide washers under any where the bolt hole in the deflector is a bit worn. This should keep it nice and secure. Where the front edge of it meets the underside of front air dam, it's not a very close/even fit - duck-taping along this join is a good thing and stops air pressure getting in and trying to rip the deflector off.

I'm not 100% sure about it's purpose(s) but I believe it's main one is (as the name implies) to deflect air under the car (caused by the lip on it which hangs down) and creates a low pressure zone under the engine bay which draws hot air out of the engine bay from underneath while you are driving and also helps promote air flow through the radiator and engine bay and out through the bottom. Given engine bay temps and lack of bonnet ventillation etc. (and hot air's tendancy to rise if left to it's own devices) I'd say it's a worthwhile thing to keep securely on your car. Modern cars have very high engine bay temps are are designed mostly now to vent the engine bay from underneath like this. It's pretty important IMHO.

i have a 99 AU fairlane ghia and it has IRS..

ill need a camber kit wont i? unless i wanna be buying tyres every couple of weeks from the camber aye?

how much are they worth?
can i make my own or somthin?

Ford had a optional rear camber adjusting kit ( "a bolt".. :hihi: ) for AU IRS upper control arm. Was standard fitment for T-series. This is the easier and cheap option.

I have my car thru NRMA and it's been lowered. Its an XR6.

Other companies like AAMI, Just Cars, Shannons, Vigil, etc will let you do more.

loxxr6, I was told it was 32mm lower than the STANDARD ford falcon (forte for you I spose), and that the xr's were lower than standard, so I couldnt go that low...

Check the AU falcon site. The XR's at some stage had the same ride height as the base model vehicle's ( I think utes are an exception).
