Hi guys, need some advice on an issue with my car, 09 Fg falcon xr6 5sp auto. Wife just called me to say our car is stuck in drive won't start to allow her to put it in park, she had just parked in the car in our driveway but turned the car off before putting it in park, driveway is on a hill and car has the hand brake on. any idea's please, (apart from don't let the wife drive lol).
Cheers. |

It sounds like the mechanism could be faulty - to change from P to anything is a mechanical operation (ie linkage must move, either solid or cable).
I have the same 5R55 gearbox in our explorer, and it requires the footbrake to be on before it will move from Park - is the falcon the same?

Maybe it needs to be pushed forward a wee bit if possible so drive can be disengaged.
Could have rolled back slightly making it hard to get out of drive. |

It should be going click click through the gears, if not linkage is broken.
Usually you can reattach with wire/cable ties etc as a temp fix. Many people just drill a hole and bolt the linkage to the arm. Car wont start in D so need to jack up and fix or manually move selector on side of box if you want to drive it to mechanic etc. No foot on brake stuff with Falcon. |

Thanks for the replies guys, As Stinky say's I think it needs to be pushed forward slightly to release the pressure on the selector, (wife drove into driveway left it in drive turned the engine off released foot brake then applied the handbrake,) but as its facing uphill on the driveway, I'll need a push from the neighbours, but I'll certainly be looking at all the advice below.
Thanks guys i'll let you know how it goes. cheers. |

try getting it into neutral at least as you can start it from there too.
