Default Mustang SM17

Ooooo, I do love a red Mustang! Especially one with 570kW of power and 870Nm.

That specs page is one of the worst pages I've read! On and on about the same things.

Any idea on price and if it comes in any other colour?

I wonder what the significance is of the "17" in the name?

Why not "SM20" (for 2020) or simply "SM50" (for 5.0 litre)?

Yes, but years from now, people might think it relates to a MY17 model Stang.

But being his racing number, then I guess his next version will be "SM17 MKII"

My eyes might be deceiving me but in the video looks like an auto? If so it should be a fair bit quicker than the manual only r-spec. Interesting though as I thought the reason for that was the r-spec had too much power for the auto to handle. I’ll take a gunmetal manual thanks.

10R80 can take a heap of power. It's used in ZL1 Camaro's.

It was the cost of transmission calibration for such a limited run that was the issue I think. Manuals didn't have that extra expense.

At least Ford can have limited / specials editions of the Mustang.

Holden can't.

Not a fan of the red colour scheme - I reckon it would look tough as a $2 steak with a white car and the blackouts.

Black wheels changed for OE alloy/silver finish.

Yeah, I agree. It's not a finished car. Donor plus kit. Similar to the Walkie kits from years gone by. I thought it would be a finished car initially.

Yeap, these, the Allan Moffatt and Dick Johnson "specials" are trying to suck every last nostalgic dollar out of punters before no one cares anymore.

Good luck to them, wish someone would just throw in a voodoo and make an Aussie GT350 already, that would have more cred IMO.

MACH 1 is nice but still underdone IMO.

Agreed with the sucking money out of punters.

The Mach 1, The handling package version is good on paper and having a better gearbox is also good.

I don't think Ford do a Voodoo crate motor so that limits what anyone other than factory can do with it. And factory want to protect 350 customers.

RSpec is as factory backed as it gets. Parts of the SM17 get a 5 year unlimited kms warranty and other parts get 3 year 100,000 Herrod Warranty. Whilst I have no doubt Herrod would warrant his products and wont give people the run around, its year 4 and 5 when it will get sketchy.

Fair enough. The RSpec is as close as it gets to FPV (who did the development and engine changes) and Ford from days gone by.

Walkie used to do the same as did HSV back in the day with the latter backed by Holden Warranty.

I don't have issues around the Rspec as I see it as a factory car but I don't like the product that seems to be missing features I'd want. SM17 does address the issues with the Rspec especially around cooling.

Mach 1, with the promise of better gearing and a Handling Option is where my money will be going if it makes it to Australia.

In a couple of years time Mustang will use a 6.8 V8 as the high series option, everything changes then
and another group of buyers will be lining up for their cars...
