"Ford will further reduce its range of models, with the Mondeo set to be the next on the chopping block.
The news comes after Volkswagen’s announcement in June that it will likely join forces with Ford to strengthen both companies’ overall performance in the commercial vehicle arena, and Ford's plans to cut underperforming models such as the mid-sized Mondeo from its range. News agency Rueters reported this week that Ford of Europe will cut the Mondeo, as well as the Galaxy and S-Max people movers that share the same mid-sized underpinnings, from its line-up, potentially as soon as next year." https://m.drive.com.au/motor-news/fo...ls-119366.html

Until Ford officially announce it its a rumour. Quite a plausible one but still a rumour which Ford has denied.
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...d-model-axings Big sedans and estates seem to be vanishing more is the pity. |

Ford Europe's July sales of Mondeo were just 5,100 and 34,100 for year to date,
that's down 4.100 from last year. A long, long way form the days of 300,000 a year. I think Ford should try a near sedan with a Crossover not unlike a BMW X6 If based on the new RWD/AWD CD6, think it could prove to be quite clever.... Last edited by jpd80; 04-09-2018 at 06:15 PM. |

Unlike American production, the current Mondeois produced at Ford's Valenca, Spain plant
along with five other different models. maybe Ford's proactive consolidation a few years ago was enough to give it enough savings to support lower but richer sales mix compared to Fusion. |

What are Australian sales per month? In the 100-200 range?

The latest model camry is so terrible looking, looks like an uglier, bigger version of the nissan pulsar. They'd have to offer a negative or zero interest rates for anyone to consider driving such a monstrosity

Not necessarily,
but what do you call mid size? Cars we previously considered small, have grown over the years, as has their list of features. So a "Family Car" is now something like a Mazda 3. Plus every man and his dog wants to drive an SUV, even when its literally just the same fwd juice box with taller body. |

Keep in mind that with a lot of small to medium cars, there's a lot of platform sharing, including so called SUVs.
The previous Mondeo Platform, also underpinned Jags, Volvos, Mazdas, Lincolns, People Movers, a couple of crossovers, and the NA Fusion. The problem is that Mulally's "One Ford" was billed as a Global approach, when in fact it was a foolish attempt to return to Ford's xenophobic origins. If something doesn't sell in America, it gets axed. On the plus side it pushed them to make the Mustang available globally, but the Mustang is something of an Enigma. It's a legendary icon, and literally has a life of its own, but it's increasingly difficult to believe it is a Ford product. Basically, unless you want a Fat-*** SUV, you're out of luck. |
