Ford USA has made a record profit in the first quarter this year, with outstanding sales of SUV's and F trucks.

How do you think Ford AU was established, through thin air? Ford Canada established it (with the obvious blessing of the parent company in....USA). Ford AU exists, it has 1500 staff employed.

Geoff P was promoted to run JLR that's why he left, but even when he was running the show, it still came from the top in USA. Geoff and the team had to fly to the USA and show case the Territory to get funds and approvals to commence the work. Standard business when operating an outpost of a large international organisation. We are not forgotten here. Don't know where you get that. Falcon was just a small component of what Ford AU is all about. Design and engineering are where we are best, we have a talented bunch of people who have engineered/designed the Ranger, Indian Fiesta, Chinese Taurus and even the lead designer of the GT was an aussie. The proving grounds will also still remain. We cannot compete in the manufacturing business where it can be done somewhere else a lot cheaper incl. shipping. Not to forget the cost of constant factory upgrades and a country that isn't suitable for doing business. I think you need to understand what Ford AU really do, cause it is more than just selling imported cars.

Rod not to be rude, but in the scheme of vehicle manufacturing we are a backwater at best.
A fragmented market has lead to low volumes, all for a country that drives on the wrong side of the road. In china, Focus, which is one body style, sells around 30k per month. Here in Aus, we need 3 body styles to even come close to that in a year with E8. On top of that, many thanks go to our government for setting up many fee trade agreements with low cost ASEAN nations, which are geologically better for export to other nations. Second thanks go to the government for the reduction in tariffs and free trade, which is what has created the fragment vehicle market. You have Ford line up in the sights for the death of the Aussie car industry, but in reality it was your elected officials which set this in motion 10+ years ago. Wretched - You forgot the Escort as well
