Default Ford's record profit

Ford USA has made a record profit in the first quarter this year, with outstanding sales of SUV's and F trucks.

Ford Globally made that record profit.

The article mentions strong US sales of some products.

Erm, the " 'muricans" have always been doing the wheeling and dealing. Who else funded Falcon and Territory development?

How do you think Ford AU was established, through thin air?
Ford Canada established it (with the obvious blessing of the parent company in....USA).

Ford AU exists, it has 1500 staff employed.

..Someone tell me PLEASE why we couldn't have Aussies not these import ninnies from "murrica"..ALL THE TIME to run Ford Australia..Dear old Geoff Polites had absolute bucket loads of passion for this country and our unique situation. Different times , granted , but Ford Global has basically forgotten us other than cursory help from a few from the design and development team on a couple of cars .Case in point the Taurus set for the China market that many AFF members say will not be sold here in that guise. We are the poor country cousin and if you don't get that you should have another look..Don't bother trying to convince me otherwise because there's no chance..Greatest respect to the 1500 innocent souls left to try and run Ford "straya"..I really mean this..GOOD LUCK TO THEM selling all overseas sourced vehicles pretty much entirely in a saturated market of SUV's and small to mid sized cars..Yes I do know about Canada's involvement early on but that's almost a century ago now...Cheers Rod

"ninnies", "innocent souls"? Wipe your cheek roddy, you got some crazy on your face.
Lets talk some china numbers hey?

2015 Ford China sales:
Mondeo 113k UP 8%
Ecosport/Kuga/Explorer/Everest 274K UP 13%
Commercial Vehicles 253k Down 6%

Of those models, 300K were equipped with an ecoboost engine UP 31%

TOTAL 1.1 MILLION and they will have 10% growth for the next decade.

See now that what we want doesn't matter?

So what are you trying to get across here?
Geoff P was promoted to run JLR that's why he left, but even when he was running the show, it still came from the top in USA. Geoff and the team had to fly to the USA and show case the Territory to get funds and approvals to commence the work. Standard business when operating an outpost of a large international organisation.

We are not forgotten here. Don't know where you get that. Falcon was just a small component of what Ford AU is all about. Design and engineering are where we are best, we have a talented bunch of people who have engineered/designed the Ranger, Indian Fiesta, Chinese Taurus and even the lead designer of the GT was an aussie. The proving grounds will also still remain.
We cannot compete in the manufacturing business where it can be done somewhere else a lot cheaper incl. shipping. Not to forget the cost of constant factory upgrades and a country that isn't suitable for doing business.
I think you need to understand what Ford AU really do, cause it is more than just selling imported cars.

Rod not to be rude, but in the scheme of vehicle manufacturing we are a backwater at best.
A fragmented market has lead to low volumes, all for a country that drives on the wrong side of the road.
In china, Focus, which is one body style, sells around 30k per month. Here in Aus, we need 3 body styles to even come close to that in a year with E8.

On top of that, many thanks go to our government for setting up many fee trade agreements with low cost ASEAN nations, which are geologically better for export to other nations.
Second thanks go to the government for the reduction in tariffs and free trade, which is what has created the fragment vehicle market.

You have Ford line up in the sights for the death of the Aussie car industry, but in reality it was your elected officials which set this in motion 10+ years ago.

Wretched - You forgot the Escort as well

Back onto the topic.... here's a good topic to read from Feb this year, regarding the earlier bailouts of GM, Chrysler and GMAC
