RV owners plan a driver's nightmare in Queensland

A DRIVER'S nightmare ... hundreds of caravans and other RVs choking a Queensland highway! It will become a reality when RV owners attempt to secure a place in the Guinness World Records book for the longest ever line of caravans, motorhomes, campervans and fifth wheelers. The parade of moving RVs will take place next May on a long and straight stretch of the Aramac-Barcaldine Road. The event is being organised by the Australian Motorhoming Lions Club in partnership with Barcaldine Regional Council. The current world record was set in June, 2003, when 672 RVs took part in a parade in Canelli, Italy. "Our goal is to achieve a parade of at least 1000 RVs. Won't that be a sight to behold?" a spokesperson for the organisers said. "This is an exciting opportunity for Australian RVers to show the world what we can do." Barcaldine Mayor Rob Chandler said he and his councillors were looking forward to helping in not only breaking the record but also welcoming participants to "our little patch of Queensland". Proceeds from the five-day event will go to regional charities. RV owners wanting to take part can register here. Comment on this story"

Had no idea where Aramac and Barcaldine were so jumped onto Google maps.

Would think that only a handful of people (at most) would be inconvenienced by this.

Why would you say that? It is a pretty quiet stretch of road and contrary to what you think,the road is actually there for anyone to use.I,d be pretty certain the organisers will space them out enough so as not to disrupt other road users

Wow that was a bit harsh, l wholeheartedly apologise for offending anyone who drives so damn slow, myself and a Mica ambulance got stuck behind a caravaner on the Murreyvalley Hwy. Sirens and lights didnt seem to worry these people who were driving at 80ks and wouldnt pull over to let the ambulance pass, l'm sure they werent worried about someone elses life as losing a couple of minutes isnt their worry.

Well said - just another story that could be anyone. I find most of them are excellent now. Most are being pulled by vehicles with more than enough power to do the speed limit. The main problem now is impatient idiots that just have to get round that caravan - tossers. The same morons do the same with trucks that are doing the speed limit, they’ve just gota get around everything at any cost. Bit of patience and respect on our roads goes along way. Next time your sitting behind a caravan be patient - the poor bastard may have worked a life of nightshift, raised 5 kids, survived 17% interest rates, paid their taxes, has never had anything and is now finally retired enjoying a well earned road trip.

No, but why do they have to speed up when it comes to the overtaking lane, I have sat behind for many km at 70 to 80 in a 100 and then comes a overtaking lane and then the morons are doing 110 flat to the boards from the start just trying to be a twat or I do not now, the bloody ignorance of these bastards.
Is it that they feel that no one will let them back in at the end of the run or is it that they just don't like anyone passing them.

I will just drop back to 40km/h or pull up if their is a big line behind and let them get past, one has to think of other road uses and when driving trucks we hate them ignorant c---s in their wobble boxes, here comes a hill and the sod plods along and then flattens it at the bottom only to destroy the trucks run at the hill then I am the one creeping up the bloody hill and then I catch up to the dick and hear we go again.

There should be an awareness campaign so as to think of everyone on the road for this mob of totally ignorant fools.

That start of a sentence suggests that you are full of yourself. Try... A MICA Ambulance and I got stuck... If the ambulance could not pass safely at that speed, it would not safely pass at 100 neither.

Heaps of grey nomads out this way already, won't be too far for them to travel.

I imagine it'll mostly inconvenience any road trains heading down the road.

But I dunno, convoys of grey nomads aren't that impressive.

Police want us too travel slowly !! I have a rear vision camera on my caravan and can see whats behind me for 1km down the road. I can then pull over when safe to do so.

All States require mirrors to see down the side of the caravan. Rear vision camera gives you much better vision and see down the road.

Isn't it illegal to have a rear facing camera on while the vehicle is in forward motion ? Something about having a TV/screen monitor distracting while driving.

No more distracting than a GPS. Even a speedo could be a distraction if you look at it all the time whilst driving.With a rear camera or GPS you glance at it as part of your observation routine,ie speedo, temp.fuel,mirrors,gps etc,you don,t look at it full time

A GPS is classed as a drivers aide and is allowed under the current rules, where a reverse camera activated while moving forward is not a drivers aide so more than likely will not be legal.
