Default Fairfax again.

http://www.drive.com.au/new-car-revi...12-gota1o.html

First set of specifications is for the standard turbo engine.

No wonder hardly anyone buys their papers when they produce crap like this.

All is not well at Drive. Last December Fairfax made redundant Drive's six journalists and now outsources all content from Themotorreport.

Such a rubbish article, really grinds my gears. Ford must have really annoyed Fairfax lately.

I stopped reading at this point.

"The latest Falcon presents much like the BA derivative first launched in the early noughties. This is because it remains largely untouched on the inside from that model, and it has not aged gracefully".

I'd love to know what this supposed "new, more relevant breed" the author talks about is meant to be....

I read this article off their Facebook page. What a joke. Firstly they use the picture of an XR8 Sprint for an XR6 Sprint review. Then get the specs wrong. And then give it 5.5 out of 10. If you compare to reputable motor journos, the 5.5 doesn't fit.

5/10 for safety, yet it has a 5 star ANCAP rating?

The comments on the article about his cutting and pasting are justified. Old mate was making up rubbish and probably never set foot in the car.

It is probably rated low as it lacks new wave of safety assist technology such as lane departure warning , blind spot monitoring ,autonomous braking or fatigue monitoring. Otherwise structuraly and airbag, stability control etc. it scores highly.

Yep pretty crap article, but what surprised me was the comments section not troll in sight and everyone supporting the car.

Over the years, the local journalists spent a great deal of time and effort criticising the local product, while talking up superior offerings from overseas.

At the time, it was mentioned if they kept it up and the local product disappeared, then they might not be needed either - as there will be plenty of road reports of those imported cars which could also be sourced from overseas.

Looks like this is, at least partially, starting to happen now.

Then there's that poisonous attitude toward anything with a Ford badge,(l know their not perfect) when the current Mustang was released most overseas journos rated it pretty well where as here the reaction was pretty mixed. I reckon a lot of its motoring journalists trying to be controversial/media beatup to justify their job.

Its a pity they dont have a writer who is a enthusiast or someone who understands that it's not a car for the masses that could write the article so it would be relevant for the target market. I cant say I've ever heard a Falcon owner complaining about the lack of ambient lighting or a dim witted 6 speed auto.
I bet the guys that put so much into developing the cars would be very disappointed to read that crap.

You have to remember, these are "modern day motoring journalists", and we aren't talking about the sainted heights that were reached with motoring journaists like the late great Bill Tuckey...we're talking mostly younger guys who have been exposed to a regular diet of Porsches, BMW's, Mercs, and other expensive European exotica...and then they get asked to test an Australian car like a Commodore or Falcon? Urrghh...

I'll say it...the current Commodore and Falcon are bloody good cars, both of them. They're adequately powerful, comfortable, built for our conditions, and have all the toys. They do miss out on a few refinements and little touches that could turn a good car into a great car, but nothing overly deal-killing.
Craphouse marketing is what let them down, combined with a changing public desire for cars of a different sort...smaller sedans and SUV's and twin cab utes..that the factories didn't seem to want to accept. Big sedans for the family are a thing of the past, sadly. That's just the facts.
They can't keep building cars just for the hell of it or to please a small percentage of enthusiasts, that's just an economic fact.

Enjoy 'em while we have 'em. But as long as you don't let yourself be badge-blinded, I'm sure what replaces them will be just as much fun.
