Hmmm,you are right.
But I dont think buying a car with gay rims on it,only using them for racing and selling em as soon as you can really counts. BTW I am buying some FR17's for the new one, only because I cant get a decent tarmac tyre in a 15".. That said I'd rather give head to my shotgun than get me some fooly sick twenny's.. |

My opinion
beautiful car, ugly rims. They just arent meant for it. Why is it that for some, wheels have to keep getting bigger to be better? Sorry Im not a fan at all, keep the period look IMO... |

The ride aint the same with 20" & 30 profile to 18" & 40 profile on my BA
I'll keep 20's for cruise days, but day to day 18' BA MK1 GT rims are sweet |

I've got FR19's and if SImmons made an FR20 or bigger i'd definately consider a set of them.
One thing i personally don't get is why are people with nice looking older model cars going bigger, but just about always going chrome...? Chrome rims looks shite on just about everything, except for some US model cars. (just my opinion) |

Its usualy not the size that looks wrong its the choice in wheel and the offset that most people screw up .
Just because it fits doesn't mean it looks good and just because its bigger than standard also dosn't mean they look wrong . I have put alot of thought into my rims and I think they suit . You would also find one reason for so many up for sale is to upgrade to bigger ones that are cheaper .More to choose from now at cheaper prices |

I got rid of my 18" rims on my EF just because it was too harsh. Felt every bump and there was alot of tramlining.
I had 18" wheels on my WH statesman and there was no probs there as the suspension was very soft and yet it didnt wallow around corners. Give me a set of 15 x 10 Dragway indy's anyday!

Personally, I think that anything bigger than a 19’ looks bloody stupid on any car. There’s nothing better than a bit of rubber on a rim to make a car look good.
I almost forgot… Chrome wheels went out in the seventies, and that’s where they should have stayed.

Tony XA,that coupe is bloody sweet mate.
i had 10" 12 slotters on my old project xa coupe, but i never got far with the resto unfortunately. i personally prefer 15" wheels on older cars as i still like the yokohama radial 352's with the white writing lol,as for my EF,i might go with a set of 17's one day but you would destroy bigger rims and tyres in north Queensland.

Tony XA those wheels on you car is a perfect match - looks awesome
EL XR8 what is the ride like with 19"s, I only have 17"s at the moment and what to go 19"s or 20"s - ps LOVE your XR cool65 lucky guy to be able to have 18"s and 20"s but what you have said about the ride is probably true, maight have to settle for 19" 84RGE What size are your wheels and is that your car in your avatar? Fordmuscle1965 your 20"s dont even look taht big on your monster, IMO they suit your car Quote:

Cheers DrHemi,
You will notice the ride will be a bit harsher with 19's over 17's. It's only cause the tyres are basically elastic bands... Mine's reasonably rough, but it's on Ultra Low's. Although it doesn't bother me if the rides a little rough in any car. As long as its not stupidly rough, like cut springs would be... Plus atm, its not a daily driver anymore. The one good thing you'll find is that (if) you step up to 19's over 17's, the car will look lower, as the rims will be tucking a little more, but you will have more ground clearance all round. |

It all comes down to car & wheel choice.
Some older cars may look ok with larger rims but not others. Colour & style come into it as well. I personally run three different types of rims. Standard XR Fairmont Hub Caps XR GT Chrome Caps And I also run a set of 18" Boyd Coddingtons I feel the car looks factory with Fairmont Caps, more sporty with GT Caps and show with the Coddingtons. One point though is too large and it looks crap. Anymore than 2-3"inches over standard size would be maximum. Pics here. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=100692 |
