Default Hyundai Veloster from $23,990

http://www.caradvice.com.au/157399/h...ed-from-23990/

Not bad, it has an impressive feature list, even for the base model on Hyundai's website. I might go down to the dealership to check one out I think, has me really interested, comes in 6sp manual even in top spec, even the base model has a 7" touch screen etc. More on Hyundai's website:

http://www.hyundai.com.au/Vehicles/V...fication-Range

Looks nice in Orange and Green, the wheels even have body coloured inserts.

107KW isn't too bad either.

When I heard about it having 3 doors, I thought it would look a bit sus, but I'm rather impressed actually, plus it has a high level of equipment.

I don't know if I could ever go back to the lack of torque of a non diesel petrol 4 cylinder though, my Focus feels like it hauls *** when in reality its slow as crap.

I liked the Veloster when it was unveiled. A lot.

I liked it a bit more when I saw the U.S. pricing of it - it was $5k - $10k cheaper than I was expecting.

Now, with the kit available in the base model AND the $24k starting price, I think Hyundai might just have won my sale over a new Focus! :O

Hopefully the turbo will only be a couple grand more than the top spec ATMO version. Top spec turbo for $35k = win.

I think it looks ghastly , when all is said and one its still just another front wheel drive buzz box and at $35,000.00 I'd much rather buy an XR6 .

Well it's certainly got it easy in terms of competition:

Integra, Prelude, Celica, FTO, Supra, Tiburon, Calibra, Probe, Cougar, NSX, Gazelle and several others I can't remember are all deceased.

Who are its competitors? Everyone is buying lame hatchbacks these days, no-one is buying sports coupes. Is that because no-one is making them?

You've got Honda CR-Z, Hyundai Veloster just released, and I think Kia Koup is all we've got on the new market, the Kia isn't very good engine and equipment wise as its a few years old now, all it has going for it is looks.

Back in the 90s it seemed Toyota and Honda where in their peak, they had sports coupes, even though Honda where FWD, they're still the bench mark for handling to this day, case in point DC2 Integra Type R.

Honda CR-Z is very expensive, I think $30K plus, and standard equipment isn't very good, it has some cool stuff like a little economy game built into the cluster, it goes green when you drive sedately and if you go up a "level" little trees and crap grow, but who cares about that if the rest of the car is average, lol.

I think this Hyundai is offering the best in terms standard equipment and features, 7" touch screen is awesome, the Veloster + can play DiVX files, so if you want to watch your downloaded porn in your car, you can .

It has me interested, might check out my local dealership today, I like the Orange and Green. I wonder what the trade-in value is on my LV Focus, as I'm genuinely interested.

I'd driven a Tiburon before when I was working at Honda which I took to follow a salesman delivering a new car to a customer, very rough engine, I think it was a 2.7L V6, it went OK but it was a 4sp auto and someone hadn't bled the brakes properly so I had a real spongy pedal. That was before Hyundai came out with the quality i30 though.

It's aimed at the hot hatch market. Similar to the FT86/BRZ.

Comparing this car to an XR6 is like comparing drinking a nice chocolate milk shake to drinking a load of gravel.

Yup, smooth world class I6 and ZF6 v wheezy course 100kw 160nm 4 cyl that wouldn't pull a sailor off ya sister. Only prob you'd face choosing the XR6 is you might see one of these tacky akward looking things coming towards you. I'd take a guess and say a 10 year old ST170 focus or GTi6 306 will run rings around this thing.
I suppose young chicks will buy them, until the styling dates in 3 years time.

I'd love to take you up on that claim, cause I'm sure you'd find that at the end of the day, you'll want to take the Veloster home...

Maybe I don't want something Falcon sized as my daily driver? Probably the reason why I've had a 2009 Fiesta and 2010 Focus?

My TDCI Focus would probably run rings around it too considering it has the same power, but nearly 200nm more torque, but my Focus doesn't have a 7" LCD screen, 6 speaker stereo with sub all powered by an amp, a sunroof, reverse camera etc.

I might actually be able to fit my legs between the steering wheel and the seat in this, unlike the Falcon.

If the Falcon was THAT great, I'm sure it'd sell more than 19,000 cars a year.

I have to test drive it though, I know I'll miss the torque of the Focus and that will be a big decider for me, theres only so much that tech gadgets can win me over, it actually has to drive decently too.

Mate it sold less than 1000 last month. No one cares.

Love how absolute yokels pull words like world class and 6speed auto in order to bag out anything small, funky and well packaged, when in reality, it is a cast iron block, grandpa's axe non Direct Injection 6 with a ZF 6speed auto that BMW stopped using back in 2007 (when Falcon got it). Stop using these points as trump cards, a 6 speed auto is EXPECTED nowadays... If the bloody Falcon was so world class, the two I have wouldn't be always off at the dealer getting leaks, rattles, blown fuses, windows, oil leaks, transmission shunts fixed..

Falcon bagging, yawn. I still stand by my claim and as someone who owns a French car I wouldn't be on my high horse about Falcon build quality lol.
My post was in response to someone who thought it was fit to compare this to an XR6, which seems to be the trend when another car from a completely different segment is discussed on here - compare it to a fleet hack/family car and bag the **** out of it, maybe they have the wrong website...

LAAAWL

French Car bagging? YAAAAAAWWWNNNN!!!! Show off that glittering IQ smoo. Have a guess how many times my French cars have been back to the dealer for warranty fixes? My old Clio sport went back once for a boot lock that stayed locked. ONCE.... So I WILL get on my high horse RE Falcon Build.. They could (and have done in the past) SO much better!!

Hahah mate as someone whose got both, and 2 of Ford's "Flagship" falcons which have BOTH spent MORE than ACCEPTABLE time off the road in the dealership, I think I have every right to bag the quality. We've had A BA XR6, a BFII XR8 Ute, a BA 1 tonner, and the two FG's. Every single one went back time and again for leaks, shudders, rattles and shunts.

The only and I mean the ONLY magnificent faultless falcon we had was a beautiful meteorite AUIII XR6VCT ute. That car was spot on in every way and funnily enough, bagged by most on these forums..

What I love is how a 24K car can offer features not even available in the 80K FPV models, and people still asking what is the Falcon not selling well ...

E.G:
Driver one-touch auto up/down incorporating anti-pinching safety feature
Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) (DCT Only)
Hyundai Active Locking Operation (HALO)
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
