Low volume high quality manufacturing - Harrop

Good evening all,

Thought this may be interesting for us here, its a video of the design and manufacturing capabilities of Harrop in Melbourne:



Interestingly they contract out to other companies for their manufacturing capabilities as well - saw they were making tram brake rotors.

It shows that we can still make things in an 'expensive' labour market, low volume, high quality and also identifying potential export markets (ie USA) is the name of the game.

Good to see they're still going.....and yes I'm old enough to remember 'Harrops Howler'

Good to see, Yella Terra do the same thing, contract manufacturing as do Mackay Rubber, make things like tank tracks, tank wheels, light and heavy rail components etc. Where I would we have a similarly large setup for lathes, mills etc but does all inhouse work.

Mackay Rubber also do Bushes for suspensions.

Good news story. It's often the way there are other contract jobs that help keep things going, eg when Tickford was set up in Oz, first thing they won was the LPG fitting contract I think... then the fun things came after!
