UPDATE 5.14pm: CRICKET superstar Kevin Pietersen has been busted speeding in a $475,000 yellow Lamborghini outside Melbourne.
The English batsman – fresh from a man-of-the-match performance in the second Ashes Test in Adelaide – was nabbed by a police officer using a laser speed detector. The 30-year-old was allegedly travelling at 121km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Geelong Ring Rd at 2.35pm, despite earlier vowing to the Herald Sun that he would make sure he didn't breach any of Victoria's strict road laws. He said he was aware of the the trouble English Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton got himself into in Melbourne. "I won't be doing any burnouts," he said. But instead Pietersen was hit with a $239 fine and lost three demerit points. His management has described the incident as "regrettable". He had taken the $475,000 Gallardo LP560-4 for a spin along the Great Ocean Rd before he was nabbed by police. He was not carrying any passengers. Victorian Authorities are already making him an example to other drivers, with the Transport Accident Commission quick to hit Twitter, using Pieterson’s situation to impart the safe driving message. “Pieterson out! Bowled out by the Christmas enforcement campaign. No-one will escape this season...3000 police on the road...Don't risk it!” the TAC tweet said. The 30-year-old was seen cruising the scenic Great Ocean Road earlier today, and tweeted photos and comments from his scenic drive. "Stunning beaches on The Great Ocean Rd.. Gorgeous drive!!!" he wrote. It was the same high-powered sports car in which Pietersen was pictured in today’s Herald Sun. His close mate Shane Warne had organised for Pietersen to drive the car. As an ambassador for Lamborghini, Warne arranged a bright new yellow car for the man who ripped Australia apart in the second Test in Adelaide this week. Pietersen picked up the car in Chapel St yesterday. Pietersen had been briefed by Lamborghini Melbourne's managing director Andrew Smith, who has a house at Lorne, about potential routes. The supercar is almost as flash as Warne's own yellow Superleggera model. While Warne didn't organise it for Pietersen after losing a bet on the Adelaide Test as we were first told, it had been organised as one mate doing a good turn for another. "This is Warnie's patch and when I'm in town, he looks after me," Pietersen said. "Just the same as Sachin (Tendulkar) does in Mumbai or (Sourav) Ganguly in Kolkata." Earlier, he said he felt for Tendulkar, who had to drive his Ferrari around Mumbai at 2am to avoid being mobbed. Asked where he planned to drive the car in Melbourne, Pietersen joked: "Maybe up and down Chapel St."

Slow news day, another way for the gov to push how dangerous it is to speed etc etc. What a waste of news space.

He must have forgotten he was in Victoria, the nanny state, not England where if you're going a little over the 70mph (112km/h) limit on the motorways, the police dont normally worry about it.
Hey, thats a slogan for the number plate!! Victoria-the Nanny State |

Unlike LA, where they dont care how busy the freeway is, you are sitting on 140 kmh nose to tail, even the police cars! Last edited by Brazen; 09-12-2010 at 10:29 PM. |

I hate victorian traffic law, When i was in england last my realitivies said you would need to be doing at least 100mph (160kph) until the police would pull you over.

Oh well gee, 21 kph over the limt in a supercar. Let's pull out the prayer mats and do 10 Hail Mary's and thank the almighty that the driver didn't burst into flames.....
This country is fast becoming an international embarassment. And let's not forget the cop who no doubt high fived himself with an erection the size of a 50 ft yacht mast whilst he ticketed an "international personality". 20 years ago he would have had the use 3 grams of brain matter and work out whether the driving was truly dangerous given the conditions, the car, and the traffic at the time. Not any more. Just book'em Danno. This crap makes me want to vomit. Its pathetic. |
