My wife thinks I a mad, wanting to turn grass into lawn, always pulling out weeds and trying to to get grass growing in barren areas.
I hate weeds and am always pulling them out and keeping them under control, I am the only one who strives to turn grass into lawn. We are currently renting after owning, and I am still hard at fixing the grass to make it back into lawn.

Theres nothing wrong with showing a patch of grass some love and attention to get a nice lawn.
It provides well needed R and R I find plus the pride of ownership and enjoyment it brings.

I weed and feed mine a few times a year and also buy some special fertiliser from mitre 10. My best advise is if you want decent lawn you have to mow it weekly. The more you mow it the better it will get. I have the best lawn in the street at my house and my dads (I look after his too).

Just buy more cars; parking on it and driving over it repeatedly removes the options and given it's cost and impact on scare water resources, lawn is a most unproductive and wasteful form of agriculture (unless you are eating the grass) :-)

I'm the same. I made our last rental's lawn immaculate compared to what it was when we arrived. (about 2/3rds dirt in the back yard and huge car tracks in the front.)
I've now got a situation with kikuyu and wild oats in the front yard of our own home that is driving me nuts. We're adding a pergola out the back in the next couple of months so once that's done I'll turn my full focus to the lawns. The plan is to poison beyond recognition, then replace with a nice fescue lawn. Just need to work something out to keep the crap on the neighbours side of the fence. |

Well its a cheap Hobby and somewhat therapeutic too. My lawn has more species of weeds in it than Griffith in the mid 70`s.

I'm constantly pulling weeds out, they're my pet hate. I actually enjoy mowing my lawn and maintaining it, especially when the weather heats up.

I`m all for grass, well actually i prefer concrete(bugger the mowing), but grass is not so bad if you have to have it, summer comes you dont water grass , it dies off ...... no mowing for three months ..... you little beauty !
cooler months come, grass is fairly resilient, it slowly grows back(less mowing in the mean time). Manicured lawn like bowling green , one must look after it................... nurture it , work for it, feel offended when a stray dachshund does a huge mocha on it. Plain old grass is fine in my book, and with a bit of a whipper snip and edging now and again, it comes up like a million dollars.. |

one of life's greatest pleasures.........mow the lawn on a warmish day after work or Sunday morning then sit back with a beer and listen to the impact sprinkler.......the sound and smell is one that never leaves the senses.
sadly, with a 236% rise in water cost since 02 we can no longer let the sprinklers roam free.

Lawn.. But some basic things to keep it healthy...
DONT cut too short.. Fertilise a little but often.. ( one a month) Water after hot days. ( under ground soaker is best ) I add a cupful of Urea in a feed and weed spreader after Cutting the lawns to keep them green and outgrow the weeds choking them out..

I opted for Kill all the weeds and it becomes lawn ... but that is not quite right.
IMHO lawn is a single grass species in a given area. If you start with a paddock, and then weednfeed and mow for a year or two it will become grass. for a lawn you pretty much need to plant/lay, or use some really cool selective killers. but ... my opinion really does not matter to anyone ... even me. |
