In the newest street machine (not in newsagents yet?) they say Chysler is releasing a new centura which has a 4.9L v6 Hemi, the shape and suspension setup is based on merc c class cars.
They mentioned bore and stroke of the cylinders are the same as the 6.1 Hemi, its basically the same engine with 2 cylinders gone, so performance parts are compatable with both. Other expected features new 3.5:1 posi LSD + Dial your own horsepower computer (onboard tuning???) for those unfamilar with the old centura, it was a mid/late 70's small sedan offering from chyrsler, could be powered by a 245ci motor from factory (power to weight pretty fast)

They're not going to call it Centura are they? Surely not.
The Centuras we got here were based on the Simca and rusted like nothing before (except Fiats and Alfas from the 80's). I remember my neighbour's 245ci Simca, which went like the clappers, but was no match for the 250ci Cortina, which was a vastly superior car. Please, if they bring it here, can they call it something else? Not Centura.

The basic 265 stocko had 203hp and did a 15.7 quarter in the heavier Charger. There is also the HiPo versions with as much as; 280hp if you wanted to source one from an E38 for a 14.8 quarter, or 302 HP with triple carbs from an E49 for a 14.4 quarter. All in Chargers, let alone the lighter Centura. Cortinas did something in the area of low 17 - high 16 second quarters. The E49 Chargers 265 with triple carbs was the fastest accelerating 6 cyl in Aus for sure, and I think the world at the time and according to write ups, crossed the finish line still in 2nd gear. Chrysler went through a process similar to Ford Aus with the Corty, the car both used were originally a 4 banger for the Euro market, beefed up for us in Aus. Ford did do a fair bit to modify the Cortina to take the 6, Im not sure what exactly Chrysler did though. The big difference is, Chrysler Australia did a lot more with the 265, than Ford Australia did with the 250. |

Anyway, the point I raised the clevo was that even though it was an awesome car, loved by my mate Neville, he always used to talk about what a weapon the Centura was. GK

The 250 or 4.1L late model Cortina was a flyer however the Centura went better, I remember in 1983 or 84 going along the straights outside of Walcha sitting on 180 k's in a Sports laser with 4 on board when a Centura flew past us, he must have been doing over 200.
Chrysler did not make good vehicles in general however the engines were supurb. |

AFAIK the Centura never came out with the 4.3 (265ci) only the 4.0 (245ci).
I owned a 4sp manual and a auto and both were great cars. The manual had a E49 spec motor minus the webbers and would put most v8 to shame.

I reckon it would have to be an April Fools joke. Chrysler already have a few different V6's, why would they need to cut 2 cylinders off a Hemi V8 which with a 90 degree V angle would make it rough as guts just like a 3.8 litre Holden V6 with 90 degree angle was. Probably all modern V6's are 60 degree V angle.
