Even the Holden website describes it as Quote:
Basically it was just an ego trip from the Holden marketing department, who thought, if we can sell the cruze in lots of numbers by saying the door makes a clunk sound when shut, then we can give the engine a fancy name, put a $5 tag on the back of the car, and maybe sell the car for an extra $500 to those just a little bit more gullible. |

The whole SIDI thing is such a 'Holden' thing to market...they know most people don't know what's going on under their bonnet and will just assume it's some sort of space age phenomenon occuring each time they turn the ingnition, ha..it's the same fools who think their Cruze/Barina/Captiva are all Australian fair dinkum meat pies yo..

Before we get the band wagon saying anything about imported stuff for Holdens, just think where some Ford parts come from.

Well originally they wanted DISI but Mazda took that one. DI has obviously made the motor alot better, it's now competitive with the I6 and in the states puts out as much as 230kw.

Ford's Duratec 37 doesn't need it either to make the same power and torque as GM's SIDI 3.6. The D37 is within 15 nm of the Falcon's torque in the bottom end and stomps on it above 5,000 rpm. |

I know DI in an NA application is not worth the trouble....but with something like a turbo its quite good.

Its like when they had prototype twin cam motors for the EA but they went with the SOHC version because it did what they wanted and was cheaper to make. What to make of Fords TDCi badge. Turbo diesel compression ignition. |

Ecoboost friendly? I'm thinking that some bright spark with a CGI program could take the camshaft, spring, valve and combustion chamber module off the Duratec and using "One Ford" use all of those existing parts in developing the head. The D35 piston diameter is close to that of the 4.0 I-6.... Interesting part is that the Ecoboost V6 has the fuel injector on the side of the combustion chamber, unlike most European and Japanese set ups. Last edited by jpd80; 04-04-2011 at 05:05 PM. |

I think they have already copied the design off another Ford engine anyway, Modular maybe. They seem similar. |

Combustion chamber injection...
Older EFI is direct manifold or port injection... It mainly helps with EPA...

I think they went with SIDI as a marketing term. Sounds like "City" you see?
But to us Ford fans... it's just SHIDI.
