My neighbour has an 2001 AUII XR6 which has done 112000k's and still has the original Iridium spark plugs. We've had a look at them and found that the gaps were all over the place and the tip coming out of the centre of the plug all varied in their lengths.
He has just serviced the car with new oil & filter together with a new air cleaner and is looking at changing the plugs owing to the visual condition of them. He was getting fairly poor fuel consumption and he said that the motor seemed sluggish. We re-gapped the plugs to 1.3mm but apparently this made no difference. As the Iridium Plugs are about $18 - $20 each to replace and out of the budget at the present time, which would be the best 'Standard' plugs to use in their place, if in fact they can be used, considering it is an XR6. |

i'll fetch ya a part number tomorrow... they are just a standard replacement but i'm not to sure how long they will last!!!

The standed replacement NGK's are ZGR6B-11 for the AU's.

You can use Bosch Super 4s (WRL-91V I think). They are around $60-odd for a set, so not that cheap. But they seem to be pretty good (I had them in my AU XR6 for a while).

Use standard NGK plugs, and replace them more often. I don't see that spending so much on Iridium plugs gives you any real tangible benefit for the cost.

Thanks very much for your replies, I've just told the neighbour and he's grateful for the info. He said he'll just buy the standard ones as suggested and check them about each 15000k's as he did with his old car.
(I may have to keep this in mind when it comes time to replace my iridium plugs, although my AUII I6 has only clocked up 42000k's to date.) Thanks again everyone. :eclipsee_ Chippitydip |

Then you get LPG-spec plugs - you don't need iridiums. But in an XR6, you get the XR6 spec standard NGKs and it runs fine.

thanks for that Death, I don't know if he has bought the plugs yet, but I have heard only good reports about NGK so I'll push him towards them. Thanks again.

Ford recomended NGK ZGR6b11 for lpg in the early 4.0's so there a good plug
