Default toyota handbrake heart attack

went with an older work mate to the local toyota dealership to check out the Camrys. He sat in the drivers seat, I sat in the passengers side with the sales dork almost on his knees at the drivers door. It all looked very nice and smelled new and when the sales guy stepped away for a moment my mate asked "why is the handbrake on your side?" Well, I said convincingly, Its quite a safety feature. As the average age of a Camry driver is right up there in Heart Attack Territory, should you be driving down the road and suddenly feel the urge to collapse behind the wheel and you're busy grabbing your chest with both hands, this feature gives the passenger a chance to yank on the handbrake before you give a high speed rectal exam to the Kia Rio in front. Well I laughed......... but he never asked the salesclown the same question.

Toyota Australia export more of them in Left Hand Drive format than they sell in Australia, so Toyota obviously made the decision for the hand break to be on the wrong side of the car. It is frustrating, however it is better than having a foot break.

Too true. Its fun going from driving a manual to an auto with a foot handbrake. Lucky the pedal is unusually high....

Not a big deal IMHO. The hand brake is on the "wrong" side in my Focus.
