Media outlets are now releasing reviews of the Mach E.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4n5iPqxpaw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT47B3zCXpI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9flQXK2I2M First of all, I don't agree with using the Mustang name for this vehicle, Futura or Galaxy would have been better in my opinion. Nor am I turned on by electric cars. Getting past the name and drive train, I am starting to warm to the design. The rear end is a but odd but the curvy side profile and aggressive front end really appeal. I doubt this will ever make it to Australia, but the existence of the Mach E will hopefully allow Ford to keep the real Mustang in it's range for a while to come.

When they announced years back that a Mach E was coming, like many others I threw a tantrum, unlike many others I grew out of that and can acknowledged that the car looks to be a decent product. I don't care too much that they used the Mustang name, it isn't a model as much as it is a brand. Will be interesting to see where they go with it in the future.
In any case, back to the Mach E, well done Ford. Looks to be a good car. With the changes from COVID - I'd certainly consider this if it came to AU as our next family car.

Agreed; it fits the two-syllable model of many imported words dear to the Asian argot - I expect it to sell vigorously and be blatantly copied in China. (If only GM could have called the Camaro “Tran-Am” instead, they’d probably do well with a sub-marque!)

Does it have 3 carbys, or is it just really an adjective describing an unfortunate event?

Looks like a Focus with Mustang tail lights.

Jonny Smith review. Quite a good insight as per his usual reviews.

One of my crew fly's Aerobatics and I found the Mach E advertised on the first page of one of his magazines, there is another add further in the mag but I didn't get a scan of that one...

If it can tow, I'd be all over one. Even if it can't. Plenty of charging on the East Coast to own one of these. And given we are now getting made in china Teslas, I wont be buying another one of those.
This would be much better than the Y.

I too was getting the pitch fork ready, I mean really using mustang and mach was a bit much for me.
If this model extends the possibility for ICE Mustangs in the future then fine, I mean look at Porsche and the way its had to either create models or change to survive.

Using the Mustang as a 'brand' to slap on anything? I don't agree with that being slapped on an SUV, it cheapens the name Mustang.
Anyway I'm not their customer so who cares what I think |

I like the idea. Its smart from a Marketing side of things. I'd buy one to go with a Regular GT. Whilst it might not bring the "purists", it will bring in new consumers who like the Mustang name but want an EV. They don't have the baggage of some previous buyers. And its plenty quick enough to warrant the name from that perspective.

It's just gotta be a Mustang, not an SUV with the Mustang badge slapped on it. Why not give it it's own name? Is it on the same platform? There's been some crappy Mustangs, but they've all been Mustangs, this one isn't. It's like the ZB 'Commodore'. Imagine if they ran VF Commodore and ZB Commodore concurrently, it's two different cars with the same badge and the ZB Commodore shares nothing with the VF Commodore. Or imagine a XR6T Falcon but a Turbo Territory is called XR6T Falcon S Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 25-01-2021 at 03:51 PM. |

XR used to be used on Falcons but we got the XR2 Capri, XR5T (Focus/Mondeo), XR4 (Fiesta). I don't think these Mustangs share similar platforms at all as the focus for the Mach E was to do an EV platform vs ICE platform. Like I said, I can understand why people would be drawn to the Mustang nameplate and understand why Ford would use it. I have no issues owning a Mustang Mach E to match my Mach 1 once they're available. I'd suggest more of the younger crowd will be fine with the move.

As Kypez mentioned, Mach E is on a dedicated EV platform.
Like I said in the opening post, this vehicle would have been perfect for the Futura or Galaxy nameplates. Or even just Ford Mach E. Like the styling, the Mustang name on this car is growing on me. With the reviews commenting favorably of the dynamics, perhaps it being branded as a Mustang is justified? I also believe eliminating the Ford branding might draw in more customers who perhaps see the Ford brand as undesirable.

We definitely need these here along with the Bronco if Ford is to compete sales wise and remain relevant we can't solely rely on the Ranger forever otherwise Ford will follow Holden.

I can see a lot of people owning both Mustangs.
What I am not sure about, is what the word performance translates to in the EV World. Does it mean bigger electric motors, larger batteries, longer range ect. In ICE vehicles we have Cylinders, Turbos ect to differentiate. Each having different characteristics. How will we be comparing the differences between performance EV's?

I think the first pic with a proper grill looks better, don't like the others. I don't agree with putting a Mustang badge on it. It looks nothing like one except for the badge and some passing resemblance in the rear.

I know an elderly lady who just purchased an MG3. She mentioned how she liked MGB’s, back in the day. And had no idea she’d just purchased a Chinese owned/made car.
There’s a sale for MG, due to name association. It’ll work for Ford too, with the Mustang E SUV. Plenty of guys who’d love a Mustang Fastback, but will get the Mach E as the family car. |

I don't know, the (older) guys with money may know better (it's not a Mustang) and the (younger) guys who don't care, can't afFord it anyway. Did Tesla have to make an SUV (along with everything else) to start selling their EV's? Doesn't appear so, though their specs seem to be better than the large/heavy GT talked about here, which to me would be the only one to buy. Ultimately though, it's not something I'm looking for.

It sold out it’s first year allocation within a day or so. It’s sold out long, long in advance. Sales are not an issue at all. It’s a success before it’s even made it to customers.

Much like the original Mustang, so there's that. I like it, like the naming/brand association. It will help Ford into the future.
