I got a cluster off ebay (xr au2) one for my (au2 forte) and trying to put it in. The only problem is the doco says this....
Left Hand Side Instrument Cluster Connector - Note Low Series does not use the 12Pin Lower Plug But I need that 12 pin lower plug to install the xr cluster.... is it hidden behind there or what do I do? Doco I have; http://www.izone.net.au/lis04748/Wir...eries%20II.doc

Does anyone know how its surpose to be wired in? I can't figure it out. With that plug missing wouldn't it make it impossible because you don't have any of the wires needed even in the dash anywhere?

I'm pretty sure LG converted his dash to an XR cluster. Try sending him a PM.

You need to make your own wiring loom. A experienced auto electrician should be able to do it, for a small charge.
I think you can buy the loom off Ford, but it'll be costly.

It preety much works just plugged in with the 16 pin connector. The problem is the km's... I don't want to solder in my old emprom cause I don't want to pull the face and needles of the new cluster. Im wondering when vdo do it do they solder in a new emprom or just reprogram it ?
Gonna go now and find if repco sells a 12 pin connector. Other then that it could be soldering :(

Yeah I found out the need a new emprom or my old one... im not sure if it would be cheaper to use the old one.
Anyway its all in now... in the end only 4 things needed to be changed. There where 4 pins that had to be converted from the 16 pin plug to the new 12 pin plug and it all works sweet. It works fine with just the 16 pin plugged in but things like abs, right hand indicator and dash lights didnt work but they do now! Just gotta get the cluster sent to vdo now hopefully they can do it in a day as I gotta work now. Im not keen on taking of the face/needles to solder the eprom in when im most likely going to bugger it. Plus taking off the needles isn't fun always seems to throw the speedo out a bit. Also no limp home mode when just having the 16 pin in... it kept driving fine.

Duffman, can you give me some more info on this?
Where did you get the 12 pin connector from? Or does the 12 pin connector exist on the forte, but just not wired up? When I get home, I'm gonna rip out my cluster to see whats going on... Cheers |

OK. I ripped her out.
Behind the Forte cluster, theres only a single 16 pin connector. Anyone know; a) Where to get the 12 pin clip/wiring loom? So I can rewire the 4 pins needed? b) If it's possible to buy a male->female adapter, so I dont have to cut my ACTUAL wiring room, rather ... just wire up an adapter? So yeh, where can I get these plastic clips from? 1 male 16 pin, 1 female 16 pin, and the female 12 pin? I rang ford, but they said they only sell the entire looms. |

All that needs to be change is 3 wires. You cut them off the 16 pin plug.
What I did. Cut the 3 wires and join some extra wire onto them. Then get little clips for the end and clip them into the pack of the cluster where the 12 pin would plug in. This removed the need for the 12 pin. When i want to remove them I just have to remember where they go on the pins in the cluster... thats about it!

I'm thinking it'll be easier and safer, to, at the very least, take the 12pin adapter from the back of a wrecked falcon. I'll call around tomorrow, if I can't find one, I'll have to do what you did.

Hi Guys
Ive just completed this. And it's perfect! However, one problem. The Engine Coolant LED is constantly flashing. Quick investigation shows that it's for V8 Owners, which makes sense considering the cluster was from an AU3 XR8, and I've only got the i6. How do I stop it from flashing? |
