My son has just picked up a 2011 Titanium TDCI wagon 81,000 km to drive back to Shepparton from Melbourne. He has phoned to say that there is a booming sound at low speed (around 10 km/hr. Any thoughts as to what it may be. It is a loud wow wow sound which to me sounds like a wheel rotation relating to wheel bearing in the right back wheel. Any thoughts as to what may be the cause.

Thanks for reply. He is now home and checked tyres. They are Goodyear Eagles with plenty of tread. I will report further after more diagnosis.
The vehicle is Frozen White (not relevant to the problem of course). Looks special with aftermarket tint. |

I've noticed tyre noise a bit more than Falcon in Mondies. Currently Michelins seem quieter than previous Toyos. But at 10km/h?

I find an almost drumming sound from the tyres, especially the rear in the wagon. I've put it down to the big empty space at the back (space makes bass). Far noisier than my old commodore.
My wife's Kia has the noisiest tyres I've ever heard from new (and I used to have cooper ST's on my 4x4) They are the factory Continental tyres that I will be happy to change.

An inspection this evening reveals that the LHS rear tyre appears to be badly out of round and badly worn on the inside. The date section on the tyre has been erased. Somewhere along the line I suggest that the tyre included on the original set has had a puncture or some other malady and been replaced by this oddbod. Has anyone a clue as to why the date section been erased.

Can't think of any good reason why you'd do that. If it was bought from a dealer, then they should pay for the tyre.

make sure it's not on the inside facing sidewall, a numpty may have put it on the wheel incorrectly.
So there's no DOT stamp at all? |

No DOT stamp in the spot where it should be as on other tyres. Not apparent anywhere else.

What's the date stamp on the others? There's a good chance they are the original tyres and have all gone hard anyway.

Some one has fitted a dodgy tyre, no surprises it's got a problem. On the whole cheap enough to square it away and not need to think about, but, ****** for it to be on there and not be picked up in the first place. Consider it a lesson to make tyre age part of an inspection. Sorry to hear Mondoman but lucky it's an easy fix.
