Any of the latest series boards from either Gigabyte, or Asus, will more than satisfy speed and stability requirements. what is your budget for a motherboard, and what features do you want/need?
The newest mainboards all feature multiple USB 2.0, SATA (usually with RAID option), and a plethora of other options, depending on model and price. Head over to Gigabyte, or Asus, and note down a couple of models you are interested in, then hunt down a price online. You can start at Razor Trader, which is an online databse of some of the cheapest prices available. You could also check out Aus PC Market (I believe prices still include delivery, but check that). If you understand the jargon, and tech talk, then head over to Tom's Hardware, or AnandTech, to get the goods on different manufacturer's products. Other useful links could be PC Authority, and the 'Tech Talk' and CPU/Motherboards section at Atomic MPC.

If its a Socket 478.. can't go past the Asus P4C800-E Deluxe. If its LGA775, Asus P5AD2 Premium. Both are the respective best for each Socket, bar none.

yeah they are good mobos
stay away from the lower end ones. major stability issues. Abit are ok too. for a performance boost. buy some Matched Pairs of Ram. DDR400 512 or 1gb. I recently decided to go with AMD for a change. Brought a AMD Athlon 3000+ 64bit. Runs fairly quick but i think the P4s still win in the pure grunt stakes. |

i was going to go for the Asus P4C800-E Deluxe but it was a little out of what the woman would let me spend so i chose a P4P800-E deluxe which was alot cheaper but should be better then the crap board i'm running at the moment Last edited by Thornie; 06-06-2005 at 05:32 PM. |

I wouldve chosen the P4P800 over the P4C800 anyway.... very minimal difference in performance and alot cheaper. And yes I have used both.

yeh definitely asus. really reliable boards. i have used them forever as far as i can remember.

If you are near a MSY, you can't do much better price wise. Service wise? A whole different story...
 Their RMA's seem to be okay though. It's a horrible site too, but you should be able to work it out. http://www.msy.com.au Damn, 17" 8ms DVI LCD monitors @ $330... That's cheap. |
