Hi guys, iam thinking of putting a msd alternator
Into my au xr8. Has anyone done this? what amps
do I need, 130 amp or is better to go with 160 amp.
And are there brackets for this or do I need to make

Im no auto parky but if it was me I would stick with 130amp given that the system is designed for that. Maybe PM KOUPE76, I think Mick was going to put an MSD alternator on his old ute. Not sure if he did it or not but he might have some more info to help you out.

If you aren't having any issues with battery charging, then there's no need to go to a higher capacity Alternator.

The only reason you might need more capacity is if you have a high load device such as multiple high power audio amplifiers.

Otherwise 130a is more than plenty.
In saying that, no harm will be done with more capacity, there's just no advantage if it's not required.

Repco you can get bosch ones which are better than the factory ones I think they're like 150 bucks a mate bought one for his au last year

AU's are underdriven from factory. No need for a kit.

I doubt that.
Ford would have the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, and A/C running at optimum speed for maximum efficiency at idle.

Sox you raise a good point, but i haven't seen any kits for au only people selling e series kits as au. The ratios on e series bolt ons must be different than au as i'm pretty sure au bolt on pulleys are smaller than e series. Because wouldn't underdrive pulleys be bigger than standard?

I haven't compared AU pulleys to E series, so can't say for sure, but I doubt there would be any significant difference.
