If it is the same as the Fairmont Ghia's (std with IRS) then it won't have and LSD... it wasn't even an option on the Fairmont Ghia's - the combo of traction control and IRS negated the need in Ford's view. There will be a tag on the side of the diff which will say 'LSD High Performance' if it is - just 'High Performance' and it is not LSD.
If your car has been through the steering rack recall there will be welds on the bolts that fix the rack to the cross member. There will also be a recall label stuck to the inside door frame (drivers side) as you described. However the one/s you have could have been for something else also (mine has a couple). The code on the recall label for my steering rack is SRCC300. |

If its a V8 it should have an LSD in there, the LSDs get worn in the cones & stop working, you can get them reshimmed which will fix the pro, but it will slowly go back to not working again, I have had all my diffs done :EG: EBGT, EF XR8, & now the T3. Any good diff/gearbox place will know this & be able to help you, when you get it done, get them to double the factory torque settings as there way to low.....hope this helps..

Here is a scan from the series 1 Fairmont Ghia brochure http://www.fordforums.com.au/photos/...cat=728&page=1 which shows LSDs as neither std or optional on the Fairmont Ghia. I have a copy of the series 2 brochure which shows it then became an optional fitment (unfortunately there isn't a scan on the forums). Having reviewed all of the AU Fairlaine brochures, unless I've missed it none of them mention LSD anywhere. |

I am pretty sure none of the fairlanes or LTD came with LSD standard and I didn't even think they had LSD as an option.
Traction control defeats the purpose of an LSD anyway. To use the LSD you need to remember to switch off the traction control every time you start the car. |

cheers fellas
ill check the recall number thingo.. i think that number is teh same as mine.. with the LSD.. i have the 6 cylinder not the V8.. and yeah i understand why the traction control would be useless aye.. as well the tyres would spin and engage it all the time aye... in my opinion id prefer LSD over traction control... as traction control kicks in if the wheels spin slightly... and thats REALLY annoying when pulling out into heavy traffic and needing to give it a bit so you dont get hit ... as she bogs down and then gets going again!!! ... ive learnt to turn it off when making such manouvers.. |
