What's the bet down the track, that an amazingly coincidental set of circumstances come together in space and time, and the 'original' engine is located in a dusty old shed somewhere!

A barn find, smashed up with a baseball bat.
As someone who chooses to be Australian, this convergence annoys and disappoints me. |

Barn find where was the barn? Alice Springs? they could have at least left the engine in the car.
I remember once Allan Moffat said when he went to a Ford Day at the Ford factory in Victoria. I haven't seen so many XY GTHOs in one place which is funny because Ford only built 300 of them". |

The way I see it with the guards flared like they are the front rims & tyres are as per the last setup and the rears would be even wider.
Maybe it was used as some type of circuit racer. I can remember back in the early 80's seeing a few street cars including XY's with flared guards and an extremely wide footprint similar to this car. . |

The video mentions it's been raced and heavily modified over it's lifetime, plus there's a few 'ANDRA' stickers on it, it is what it is.

The fact of these getting maximum publicity is good and bad. I can think of a few in years past where cars were pinched from sheds and paddocks then sold - now not so easy. Yet the temptation must be ramping up for all the people who know of “something” and think they might have a claim to possession. I worry about one (non Ford) race car a friend has tucked away in Sydney’s west; it would be a prime target...

Side pipes, flared guards, huge wheels and a big bonnet scoop, all adds up to a tough muscle car. Love to be able to read the placard in the show stand.

Wow, stand corrected on the wheels.
Its got more of a sports sedan flavor than a drag racer too me. Looks like it was more of a tough streeter though.

My mate knows the car, his ex misses (owners) smashed it up with a baseball bat and took the tags off it. He bought them back, recent passed away and the sons are selling up. Apparently had a few cars down there.

Yeah you can see it's been vandalised in the pics on the auction site, dented roof/panels, smashed lights and busted glass all over the floor in the back seating area.......sad!

So what exactly is so special about this shell?
Whatever it was, its been bastardised, then raped and pillaged. It might be a solid body, a good basis for an XY project, but that doesn't make it worth $300k. If the post above is to be believed then it's had the tags removed, which makes the car unregisterable. If, based on the shock tower, you can confirm that it was originally a HO, so what. It's not one now. If you buy that car, and then acquire all the parts to rebuild it as a HO. And I take a nondescript XY and add exactly the same parts and work, then what's the difference. Don't get we wrong, I understand the rarity and iconic nature of a genuine HO. My point is that it isn't any more. Some idiot destroyed it.
