A couple of light coats should be OK. As long as the red and amber can still be seen, you'll be OK.
To remove the taillights: 1. Open boot. 2. Undo 2 screws holding light in 3. From inside boot, undo plastic clip and loosen the boot lining covering the back part of the taillight 4. Undo the 10mm nut 5. Pull the tail light out. 6. Installation is the reverse of removal As for actually removing the lens from the body of the taillight - there is no known method for doing this (unlike the headlights), as the whole light assembly is plastic welded.

there is a way of removing the plastic lense from the assembly
it is basically uruthaned together, basically chuck it in the oven around 50 to 80 degree for a few minutes and then start pulling it apart. keep heating it up until they seperated. there are little clips all around it that hold both parts together as well. in order to rejoin them use uruthane, regular silican can be too agressive and damage the plastic. i have also used liquid nails on commodore lighst before because it was cheaper |
