Hi Everyone
Quick question I have a 2001 Au fairmont ghia the factory cd player is stuffed. I want to fit an aftermarket head unit but don't want to lose my premium sound. The patch harnesses for the new head unit doesn't have an extra plug for premium sound. Is there a way around this to get everything to work? Thanks |

I can't quite remember how it was done (someone else did it for me). I can have a look in the next day or so to see how it was done if you wish. |

All you need is to have some RCA connections tapped into the factory amp wire that plugs into back of premium sound unit and plug that into back of aftermarket unit and the sub should work as normal.

Hi. From memory the premium sound amplifier in the boot is a "modified" alpine unit (I seem to think the gain/level controls were covered or removed) but it still had RCA plugs on the end of the case. If you dont want to put plugs on the front end of the wires you can run new rca leads to the amp and just hook up to the trigger wire to turn it on. Cheers MD

When I replaced my OE head unit with an Alpine I wanted to keep the steering wheel controls. The Aerpro patch harnesses ended up costing nearly as much as the head unit.
Bill.
