Default EOI - Win up to $15,000- DYO Days

Event would be held in Victoria..

Ok, a couple of us have been discussing this for awhile and we are interested in getting some feedback, not so much as to changes to the way it would run but more if you would enter or not.

We were thinking maybe once a month depending on feedback and entries etc

So it goes a little like this

DYO All-Out Drag Days - 1 Winner Takes All

Track Entry $50.00 "goes to the track" - Comp Entry $100.00 "goes in the prize pool" - Total Entry Fee $150.00

Times would be "approx"

Gates Open 8am
Scruitineering 9am to 2pm
Practice 11am to 2pm
Lunch 2pm to 2.30pm
Eliminations 2.30pm to finish

Maximum entries 150 cars

So if the had

20 entries prize would be $2,000
50 entries prize would be $5,000
100 entries prize would be $10,000
150 entries prize would be $15,000

100% of the comp entry goes to the winner

Winner gets the cash prize pool after the final race..

Please post up your interest

Cheers
Wayne

..

Nice thought. I would imagine the "track" would want more than $50
Maybe $150 to enter. Track $75, comp $75
Good idea and worth following up

Good idea, something I have thought about trying to get at our local track as an incentive to get people to come and have a go. Have tried a $1000 to win bracket which got a few so maybe more $$$ would attract lots? Dont think you would have trouble getting numbers for it as long as it didnt clash with other events.

awesome idea, but i reckon youd need classes, like 6N/A, 6forced etc, otherwise whats the point of running, ive got an na 6 and i know i wont beat an xr8 so why bother entering? great idea though, if you had the classes id be in for sure

The point is, it doesn't matter how fast or slow your car is, it's how consistent...
You could have a 19 second car vs a Top Fueler, if you are consistent and get a decent reaction time the 19 second car can win... It's all about the package, so there is no need for classes...

There was suppose be a meeting here in perth early this year for $5000 which I would have attended for sure, however it was canned for no reason anyway it was a $100 to enter and if you got knock out in the first round you could buy back in for $50 which I thought was a great idea.
Good luck with the meet it's sure to bring out some good cars and drivers.

They did this a couple of years back at WSID . Could rebuy for $50 if knocked out in 1st round . Prize was over 8k in the end i believe . Winner took all .

Actually had alot of interest .

Sorry to the OP . Did see the DYO bit but thought it might have been another acronym for something else , my apologies .

there would have to be some sort of cut-off time, i know alot of guys with 7-sec cars wouldn't want to run guys running 15's etc, you're closing in at them at around 200mph it can be dangerous. maybe 1 week u have cars running 7's to 10's, the next week 11's to whatever.

prasac, they wouldn't have to run together would they? For example if people have a rough idea how fast they'll run, group them together like that.

14sec+ cars together, 12-14sec cars together, 10-12 sec cars together etc.

you could group them, but, a 7-sec car might meet a 15-sec in the semi-finals/finals etc.

Damn I'd be up for this but I'm not consistent, I did have a car that used to run 15.9 every single pass did 14 runs at heathcote one day every single one of them was a 15.9x

a mate of mine got stung like that. he had a 10sec 4spd mustang and he got paired up with 21 sec chev truck. what a joke.
then on the other side of things some guys run delay box's. for it to be reasonable i'd think you would have to run multiple groups and for 15 grand you will end up with some cheats no doubt about it

Years ago in the staes a Buick stock 6 ran mid 16 and beat a NItro car than went 5.3 ....

Im guessing trap speeds of 85mph vs 280ishmph ???

It is a safety issue . Thats why Andra now introduced the Top Sportsman class . For cars that ran in Super Sedan , to seperate them as cars were approaching 200mph ... Compared to a 10.9 @ 122mph , thats a BIG difference in top speed when **** goes bad in the deep end !!!

Imagine doing 120+mph and being rear -ended or sideswiped by something doing 170-200mph ??? OUCH .

ANDRA didn't introduce the Top Sportsman class, a group of racers approached the management at WSID and went from there. It is not a nationally recognized class, and is only run at track championship rounds.
As for running against slower cars, if you can't keep your car in your lane, then maybe you should look at taking up golf....

i was actually at the Top Sportsman meeting discussing the class rules and voting, and i can tell you right now 1 of the points stressed was safety, and everyone that attended agreed they worried about running slower cars and these were drivers like Pardo, the Fowlers (championship winning drivers), Triccy, Mr Enforcer and 20 or so others, suppose they should take up golf also

Are you serious >? DO you know nothing about drag racing at all ??? Things break , cars lose control and cross lanes ... Engines blow , Oil downs happen , Coolant losses , Broken axles , Broken wheelstuds , Blown tyres , steerin failures , driver error , the list goes on .

I think you gotta stop playing with the little scaelectric cars andgo take look at a real track

Back on topic , it would be a great idea . Maybe split it into 2 or 3 et classes . Based on Et's and entrant numbers ?

Some people have no idea.....
Wayne, great idea, it will work if you stick to your formula. They have been running these types of events for years in the U.S with great success, some successful racers making a living by following these events over the country.
They run anything from 14 sec to 6 sec cars, and to my knowledge no 2 car accidents....

If it was so unsafe, ANDRA, through there insurance, would of deemed this to be unsafe, and being a so-called unsafe practice, would have to change the classes to suit.... Otherwise if there was an accident, the insurance would deem this negligent practice and the drivers would not be covered under the policy. As this type of racing is right through drag racing, why don't we just make everyone run solos and be done with the unsafe practice??

as i said, they were worried about it, i didn't say it was an unsafe practice. it can happen with fast cars, slow cars, top fuellers etc racing each other. the way they look at it is, why do it, if u don't have to. that was not the only reason they wanted TS.

if it's changed or not it doesn't matter people will still race. we all sign the paperwork saying we are responsible for whatever happens on the track.

The idea is excellent, but like anything would take some administrating. Maybe limit it to anything that doesn't need a full cage and chute? Obviously though the more restrictive you are the less competitors you attract. Would like to see this sort of thing at all tracks though, good for the sport.

Yesterday at Heathcote there was a all in DYO event.
Quickest car i saw was 8.6 seconds, Slowest with no probs, around 15 seconds.
Was no issues and in fact the final 4 cars left in the comp was 2 Cortinas (11.3 and 11.8 dial in) A XW falcon 13.8 Dial in and a XD ute 12 sec dial in.
None of these cars had delay boxes.
So, the most consistant cars and best reaction times win.

Like I said Wayne, i'm in.

I do believe this thing will take off, prizemoney offered doesnt usually cover the costs of running your vehicle in a event, whereas if you win this does plus more...
Everyone should be in support for this, could even break up winnings for 1st and 2nd 75/35%
