There are certainly more common than a few years ago thats for sure, best car investment wise if you ask me, moreso if you can find one that needs little work.

The XW Fairmont GT's are rare as too. They only made a fraction of them compared to the XY version. Somewhere around 200-300 XW vs 1500 XY.
All the XW ones only got the small port motor and all were all automatics from the factory. The only major downside to this one is its painted in the wrong colour, its ment to be red not yellow. Nothing 10k wouldnt fix right.

They seem to be popping up all over the place from Suth Efrica at the moment, don't they? A former Zimbawean guy I worked with a while ago (white farmer...left for his own and his families health, as a threat of a machete to the head tends to put a dampener on your day) used to have an XY wagon on his farm over there. Wonder whatever happened to it?

Yep. The XW SA Fairmont GT's were all factory Automatics. Iv added a few bits from the Fairmont GT tech refrence below.. Note the last line in this pic refers to the engine and trans combo for SA XW GT.. And in this table, it shows eng/trans combos and available options..

We should organise a car freedom flotilla to reclaim our XWs and XYs. I'm sure there are many still in Rhodesia that have fallen into disrepair.

No your not colour blind, its just been repainted yellow.
Red is what its ment to be.. So its not the original colour.. As I said above, nothing 10k wont fix.

One would have to ask the question as to why it's advertised as Sunset Red, currently Yellow, and no mention about the auto/manual conversion.
Why was it repainted so perfectly, as in a complete engine out respray. Was it a full restoration job?.

34k for whats essentially an XW GT minus the big port heads.. Cant go wrong.. And its still around the same bucks as a replica.. Just do all the usual checks before hand and get it inspected etc, and away ya go.
