Question Flashed at 60kph

Hi all
today I was flashed by a plain wrapper VW polo
I was driving a truck along Mt Gravatt Capalaba rd at Mt Gravatt
here in Brisbane this is a 60kph road with 2 lanes each way
anyway there are numerous signs stating trucks must use left lane only
the scenario is I was driving in the left lane (legal) and sitting on 62 kph
when I was passed in the right lane by another truck (illegal)
as I said I was doing 62 and as we went past the plain wrapper it flashed
now my question can the camera tell which truck was speeding
or do we both get a ticket are there any camera experts out there
who can let me know if the camera can differenciate between the two lanes
there used to be signs saying fines for using the right lane
the only exception was if you were turning right which he wasnt
just a bit concerned about the whole busines
thanks John

If you are both in the picture you probably won't hear from them. If you do, ask to see the print ($) they shouldn't but might be trying it on.
Your speed I wouldn't worry.

Nonsense! Of course if there are more than one car in the picture you can be fined. There can be a dozen cars there, or five cars (three going the same way as him, one coming the other way on the other side of the road) as in one my son recieved a while ago!
Don't you know that some years back they got sick of throwing out hundreds of potentially profitable photos because there was more than one car in the picture (as a doubtful public was assured the official camera use guidelines stated), and told the public proudly that they "now had more experience and evidence on how the cameras work, so we know exactly which car was speeding".

Because, you know, in a static photo of several cars, some possibly coming the other way, it's very easy to tell who is doing what speed.

A red light camera can cos there are 2 picture ~1-2 sec apart.
A single flash proves nothing with multiple cars.

If you are the speeding party you will get the ticket, (or the vehicle owner if it is a company vehicle), there can be multiple vehicles in the picture which is printed on the ticket, if you want to pay for a better image you can but they are clear enough for my eyes.

I have been flashed many times while not speeding, (knowing the camera is there) but people in the fast lane activated the camera. I have never got a dodgy ticket. My cars are GPS tracked and I compare the speed on the ticket with the speed on the computer and they match pretty well.

I wouldnt worry, you wont be pinged for 62 anyway.

Question Re: Flashed at 60kph

So the camera in a vehicle can differentiate, I thought that applied to o'head gantries with multiple cameras?

B.S. If there are more than one vehicle in the photo then no one gets fined.
Challenge it in court and you will win.

If he was speeding and you were in the picture then it will be pot luck as to what will happen with you. Will depend on what the camera has picked up. I have been done now twice in the past 12 months where I know I have been maybe 5km's over limit and been passed. Both times I have been photographed and done for 13km/hr over. I asked and was told unless I know what vehicle was travelling next to me then I have Buckleys chance and the police will be less then helpful with trying to get information. So had to hand over cash and points. Hope everything is OK with you.

If you try and get between the guvment and your money.... You can't win. The laws are so skewed in favour of the revenue hungry guvment you just can't win. Be prepared to pay until it hurts...... Sorry, that just the way it is now.

You just never know...My brother in law got a ticket with more than 1 vehicle in it but he was lucky....when he got to court he pointed out that you could make out his bob cat in the photo...as he was loading his truck with it at the time...as for those keep left signs , I thought that was only a trial and that they have just not taken down the signs...(mind you I always keep to the left if I come through that way...)

Correct
Just a trial
obviously they discovered that forcing all trucks to the left lane didn't make the traffic any better and probably made it worse

It was initiated by the same clown that somehow got the Govt to force all trucks to use a toll road or face a fine. my guess is he lives along MtGravatt=Capalaba Rd/Kessels Rd somewhere and doesn't want trucks driving along a major arterial rd past his house

Ive been in the same situation (ie: doing legal speed & car in other lane is speeding). I asked someone in the force about it and they told me it will go to the speeding party - I never saw a ticket

So what do they do in multi vehicle pictures? Fine both or all the drivers for the speed picked up. Really, without multiple shots they can not tell who is doing what speed. It's mathematically impossible.

You'll actually find that piezo sensors on the ground are what trigger the camera. The photo that is taken, is of evidentiary value only. The sensors determine which car and in which lane was speeding/running a red.

Sure is a lot better (financially) to not throw out all those pesky photos with more than one car...the police here in Queensland said at the time that they were throwing out way too many photos.
http://www.racq.com.au/motoring/road..._speed_cameras
"If in doubt, leave it out?"...sure...sure they do. How about instead they just send out everything, and bet on the fact that a massive proportion of people won't fight it, as who remembers exactly what speed they were doing two weeks ago on a stretch of road?

Do a quick Google search and you will come up with thousands of results for "more than one car in a speed camera photo"...it's a massive issue.

That is why it pays to check the photo before you pay, if it is fixed camera most certainly you have been nabbed for sure but a mobile camera you will beat if more than 1 car is in it.

I don't know how it works. But it can tell which car is speeding or doing the wrong thing. In tassie the main bridge in Hobart is a 5 lane bridge which is 70khp and I sit on 75 ( which is still legal, within the 10%) and I have been over taken and seen the flash go off and I haven't got a ticket or anything. Has happened many times not just once. Your safe mate don't worry

The cameras always take 2 photos. With a small space in between them. Sometimes even three. That way they can see which car was moved the most, that shows who is moving the fastest.

Call up your local legal aid place and ask them the question, a simple question like that they should be able to give you an idea.

I remember years ago I was Racing an xr6 turbo ( yes I know illegal I don't care STFU) We went through a set of traffic lights on a 3 lane road doing 140k + camera flashed, neither of us got a ticket. as someone has already mentioned unless they take multiple images to campare distance over time they can't do anything.

If it was years ago, it would of been a camera with film and maybe just flashing as the film was probably finished.

New cameras are digital now, and can take multiple pictures and can check which lane the cars are in. (Fixed Cameras)

The red light/speed cameras take 2 pictures when a car enters a intersection.

The camera doesn't differentiate, the sensors in the road do.
They measuring the time it takes between axles to cross each sensor (time x set distance = speed) measures the speed.

They measure each side of the road and each lane has a separate set of sensors - you can usually see these in the road - the black strips.

For eg: 2 lane road, 4 lines - two for one side of the road stretching just across the closest lane and 2 more having to stretch the whole way across all 4 lanes to measure the farthest side.
Sensors In red

|___|___|
|___|___|
|___|___|

The camera just records an image of the incident so it can track the plates. The sensors in the road are the parts that do all the work, differentiating the lane and vehicle speed, tracking down terrorists and villains and whatnot.
