It is the name for the F1 car only and to commemorate the 150 years of unity of Italy.
I don't see a problem with it, it isn't like they need the extra publicity anyway. C'mon Ford it isn't like they're building a car to compete with the F150 ;)

In my opinion, Ford actually have little choice but to sue in this instance.
If the owner of a trademark does not aggressively pursue potential (or actual) violations of their mark, then they're in danger of losing the trademark. |

If Ford isn't allowed to sue, just because the product isn't totally similar, then that would be a bad precedent. What was Ferrari thinking? F-150 is one of the most successful brands in automotive history.
eg: Toyota could bring out a minivan called the Corvette The Subaru 911? The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited becomes the Quattroporte? It's just stupid for Ferrari to think they can get away with it. Trademarks exist for a reason. |

I remember hearing a while back that Porsche were originally going to call the 911 the 901, but Peugot had trademarked 3 numbered model names with a '0' in the middle. If that is true then surely this direct violation is a no-brainer and Ford will win. FPV8U's suggestion of F1-150 would be a better way to go I reckon. |

Porsche did plan to market the 911 as the 901, but as you pointed out Peugeot had already trademarked the "x0x" model names. So the 901 became the 911 and the rest is history.... But! Porsche did introduce the 907, 908 and the 909 and these where deemed to be ok because they where pure racing cars which were not sold for road use, so not competing with any road-going Peugeot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_901

Maybe Ford could rename the Taurus the Enzo, then everyone would want one.

Perhaps they could have called it the F1-150 to avoid this obvious issue?

Ford has copyright to F-150, not F150?
Is Ford still bitter that they couldn't buy them in the 60's? |

This is pretty petty but i'm not surprised given its the US division that is annoyed and over there F-150 is a huge name plate and probably googled hundreds of times a second. They simply don't want people ending up at a ferrari site (F1 or not) when looking for 'their' top selling truck. I doubt they would have bothered if they had used another name not related to such a iconic nameplate...

I was wondering what Ford's response was going to be after seeing the reveal of the F150...

I think it's more than fair for Ford to chase this. What goes around comes around.
After all, why weren't Ford allowed to use the name 'Millenium Falcon' back in 2000? Lukeyson

I remember Peugot trying the same thing with HSV in 2006 when the VE released with the 307 badge on the HSVs. Peugot failed as 307 was not a model name.

After reading this thread, 2 thoughts now won't leave my head:
1. Introducing the . . . . . Ferrari CEDRIC 2. An image of someone carrying 3/4 of a ton of assorted building material in the back and towing a tandem trailer . . . . . with a Ferrari F-150 Its probably going to take a number of beers to overcome this. |

One is a "suv" er... truck, the other is a F1 race car.... frankly i dont see any similiarity.
Is the F150 F1 car going to be offered for sale to the public? Or is someone gonna walk into a Ford dealership and ask for a F150 and expect a F1 car to appear? How long with the F150 moniker appear for? A year? Again, its quite pathetic move by Ford.
