good old ford nostalgia- love it
but must of been Aust fords marketing dept doing the equivalent of modern spin. the first few models of falcons had a bad reutation as fragile. the XK falcon when launched in 1960 was a direct copy (ie the same) as the american 1959 falcon. ford australia was so keen to get it to market they did no (little?) reliability /durability testing in Aust. the falcon had been suitable for american roads so Ford aust thought would be Ok here. australian roads were much worse and soon after release the XK's were breaking balljoints and general body flex gave them a poor reputation. ford aust kept on strenthening them over the XL and XM model ranges but wasnt until the XP release in 1965 that they shook off the fragile reputation ( see ford 70,000 mile reliabilty trial with the XP's). so guess by associating the XK with the crash kavanagh and the hell riders was going to get the message across that they were built tough. brett |

PS -
you'd probably get more response if you posted in the 'classic falcons ' section of this forums. not sure too many people visit this section - ie queensland early falcon club brett |
